Teen dead in early morning Skyway shooting

SKYWAY, Wash. – A teen is dead after King County sheriff’s deputies said he had been shot inside a Skyway apartment early Wednesday morning.
Sgt. Cindi West said the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. at an apartment in the 13400 block of Martin Luther King Jr Way.
West said when deputies arrived on the scene they found the 19-year-old man dead due to an apparent gunshot wound to his chest. Four other adults were in the apartment along with four children, ages 2-7, who were sleeping.
Neighbors told deputies they saw two men running from the building shortly after hearing the gunshot.
Sgt. West said it is unclear what sparked the shooting or what, if any, the relationship was between the dead man and the shooter.
Detectives were on scene interviewing witnesses and have asked for any tips from the public that could lead to an arrest.

lol and when I see a white guy with a trench coat I am assuming he is going to shoot up a school or theater.
I really thought as i was growing up that i wanted my parents to live closer to a large city where i could hang out more. After living in or around some of the major cities here and abroad i am so glad i grew up where i did. I am also very glad i grew up in a family that had basic rules and punishment you new about no warnings no free  pass. you broke a rule you got the punishment. I was also allowed to learn natural consequences, hang out with the wrong group and get into lots of trouble then go home and get punished because you broke a rule. may seem extreme but i respect myself and others i do not get hassled by police or po's. When i am told to stop I do. I think i need to buy my dad a beer and give him a hug.
My ex bol asked me a long time ago if I ever wondered why everwhere MLK went, violence ensued?

Too true: Your comment: "guess who provides the rent and living expenses for the criminals living here? Yup, the four children ages 2 to 7 with your welfare tax dollars..."
Â
Sad, ain't it!
Â
Â
But they weren't eating dog food like them longview kids! OHHHHHHH!
Will somebody please round up all of the South End Gangsters and the Central Area gang they are at war with, haul their butts to Century Link Field, give them all baseball bats and let them bash each others brains out?
Let me guess the 4 adults in the apartment saw nothing. Heard some shots and seen some dudes running  no description no reason why they were there. Same old story. But people from other neighborhoods should do something.
Hmmmm... 3 shootings within a mile from each other in a week.. Ya think any of it is related??
And news flash people... THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE NOW! Â No area is ammune from it. It is not just happening in Skyway. You are all delusional if you think otherwise. Guns know no city boundaries.
@pickles22 it is not the guns but the idiot who is holding it. Guns are NOT the problem. It is the complete lack of respect for others and themselves that is at fault. How can you respect some one and there property when you are not held accountable for any of your own action. Discipline and being responsible for your actions and there consequences is sooo missing today and it is really sad and will only get worse.
There is just no excuse for this. What now we let little sociopaths run around killing willy nilly because they are black and hispanic and it's not POLITE to recognize that certain areas south of seattle are just killilng fields? Ya think gun control will affect this? Just look at Chicago and NYC. This is social rot that can be cleaned up swiftly. It's not like we don't know who is doing this and the area they are living. enough. The political leadership around here is a pack of cowards for not acknowledging the obvious.
@lin Guns flow across state boarders. This is something that gun advocates don't seem to understand very well. Apply the same logic to cigarettes, liquor, prescription drugs, etc.Â
Â
Why would a criminal buy a handgun in New York City for 800 dollars at a legit store when they can get one out of the back of a car for half that from a guy who just drove up from Virginia?Â
Â
I'm not saying that we need a national model for gun laws, but what I am saying is that a patchwork of state and local laws has very little affect on gun control.Â
Any law, anywhere, has very little effect on those that don't obey the law in the first place.
Effect
Were the 5 adults and 4 children all living in that apartment? Hope the murderer(s) are found and spend their own youth and adulthood in prison.
Young black men need to man up and quit killing each other. This is a blight on the Black community and the community needs to step up as well and say enough of this killing. If this were happing in the Hawthorn Hills area the responce would be totally different.
Once again, KOMO omits race information that KING5 reported, and the SPD blotter:

Â
@northwestsurfer KOMO has to be politically correct.
@hi61izq The problem is they are not being objective with the reporting. They are afraid they are going to offend someone; meanwhile SPD and the other news outlets report the facts and thats it. So; "two men" were seen running away from the scene. Well I am glad I know that they are too men. Anything else that can help describe the suspects would be nice.
R.I.P, Death and Taxes we all have to pay ,I just wish both would go on a vacation for a while. A long extended holiday would be fine with me.
It would be more news worthy if there was a day that someone did not get shot at in that neighborhood!
Sad irony that any street in our beloved country that's named after Martin Luther King Jr is rife with crime and death. A blow to a Dr. King's legacy. What a tragic travesty that never ever ceases. Â Here goes more business for the funeral industry.
Â
RIP young man.
@alexcrowley He fought for equality... lost among the youth. Now it seems its all about the thug life, thank your rap/hip hop stars for it.
I always hate the headlines "teen dead..." Yes technically this man (19 yo) was still a teen, but he was an adult!...sorry just venting at the media spin of topics. These shooting have become way too common of an occurrence. Very sad and unnecessary!
what another sad waste
....and unless they permanently remove all 4 of those children from this home, they will be shot, or shooting someone in the next 10 years :(
Why is this news? Perfectly normal for that part of town.
It doesn't matter where it happened. What matters is the mindset of someone who probably shouldn't have a gun shooting someone else for some stupid reason. The cops can't confiscate all illegal guns. First pass VERY strict laws on gun use in a crime. Second start getting the young more jobs and self esteem through GOOD sound training. The reason you see this is there isn't much choise for the young. They need to survive and without a productive job they turn to gangs.
@uplink  A high minimum wage prevents employers from finding it  profitable to hire marginal employee prospects. It would also help to quit subsidizing out of wedlock births. A single uneducated mother  is one of the prime indicators of future system involvement.
Â
Â
@uplink I cannot agree with that, Your average gang member didn't try to work his butt off in school and came up short, he didn't give a sh**, had no respect for authority, and wanted to be "hard" so he started hooking up with Gangs, well before it was time to move out on their own and look for jobs.  There are countless people who have come from poverty to live productive lives and be honorable, honest people.  There is ALWAYS a choice.  I grew up with a single, drug addicted mom on welfare, and to date the only crime I ever committed was buying a milli vanilli CD in the early 90's.  I knew right and wrong, and was never willing to cross that line.  It's all about choice.Â
@eichler34 @uplink I know a family of 3 kids with a similar single mother as head of the household. Two of them didn't turn out well and one did do well. I don't know why some make it and some don't and does this mean there is a 1 of 3 chance that the child will be successful in life? Hmmm... But unfortunate for this man to be killed and with so many in the house, couldn't someone have stopped this?
A milli vanilli CD that truly is a crime!
But great point. As I came from the wrong side of the tracks myself and have done O.K..
I think I'll get a T shirt to show how great he was. He was just turin his life around and found God. BLah blah blah
 @eichler34 exactly.
@eichler34 I admire what you did. BUT these kids see no hope and no chance from a young age, if it were a few I would agree with you but there are so many that just give up at 10-12 years old that give up because they can see there is no hope. I know it won't change in my lifetime, but it can change. We can't keep doing what doesn't work is all I am saying.
@angkor_warrior Key point in your words "I think if most of these youths had a decent job that they be able to stick by, they would be OK." you have to start at the bottom... unless your parents own the company, youths will not find a "decent job" they will find a job. And must first learn what it takes to get a decent job.
@tkyed I didn't finish high school, yet I am making $21/hr. There are times when I see people get hired, trying to turn their life around, then a P.O. calls in to report them as a run away because he couldn't make a phone call during work hours. This is what I see that makes them give up IMO. I think if most of these youths had a decent job that they be able to stick by, they would be OK.Â
Â
The law just gotta stop F'n with the FEW that actually try to change. Yes, there are choices that can be made, I do agree. Its slim, unless they are able to get a plan going. JOB, SAVE MONEY, MOVE OUT TO A BETTER NEIGHBORHOOD, TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAM. If they don't get a chance to begin, when will they? Not everybody gets a happy start.
@uplink Sorry but I do not agree. It is a teenagers choice to give up however I do not believe that that is the case. What I do know is that they grow up with ignorant parents if you even want to call them that and in a culture where being tough and hard is glorified. When you are 19 you are old enough to choose where you want to be in life. 9 out of 10 of these gang bangers chose not to finish HS and chose not to make anything of themselves. They expect respect without giving respect. To sit there and feel sorry for them is BS.
While it's nice to honor one of the greatest American's in our history by naming streets after him, why don't they put MLK in the heart of downtown rather than in areas where the most crimes occur? Â It's a better way to honor him. Â It's the same in Portland. Â RIP to the young man in this story, 19 is way too young to die,. Â
