Toxic algae means no swimming at Green Lake

SEATTLE (AP) - Add Seattle's popular Green Lake to the list of Puget Sound-area lakes hit by toxic algae blooms.
Seattle Parks and Recreation Acting Superintendent Christopher Williams has closed the lake to swimming, wading and "wet-water boating" activities like sailboarding. Parks officials also cautioned dog owners Tuesday not to let dogs drink from the lake while the bloom persists.
The lake remains open to fishing and boating, since people engaging in those activities are unlikely to ingest the water. The parks department says the closure will last until the algae bloom completes its life cycle - which could be weeks or months.
Water quality experts have recently issued toxic algae warnings for several other lakes in King and Pierce counties.
Ingesting the water can cause flu-like symptoms.

That lake has been nasty for years. The name "green" lake is appropriate. If the algae doesn't gross you out, the duck and goose poop will. Nice park. Nasty lake. It's more like a big scum pond.
Stop peeing in the lake.
When you've seen transients washing their jumblies in the lake, WHY would you want to swim in it?
People really go into that lake and swim?
I've known about the Green Lake itch has been known for 40 years! why is this just news now?>
Where's the naked guy when you want him?
You wouldn't ever catch me swimming in that lake. It's Seattle's septic tank.Â
 @HallandOates It is and has been gross. Green lake it best for out of the lake stuff and thats about it.

jogging, frisbee, womanizing, basketball....
Does this preclude my walking on the water?
 @My_Thoughts Yes it does.  :-)
