Train hits truck loaded with recycling bins in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, Wash. - A train slammed into a flatbed truck loaded with recycling bins Friday morning in Puyallup, creating a big mess but causing no serious injuries.
Police and medics were called to the scene, at 7th Street NW near Cedarhurst Road, at about 7:15 a.m.
They found a damaged 30-foot flatbed truck a few feet from the tracks and recycling bins scattered on the ground all around it, said Lt. Scott Engle of the Puyallup police.
An investigation found that the truck driver was heading north on 7th Street NW and apparently did not see the approaching train at the railroad crossing there.
The truck headed across the tracks and was struck by the train in the right rear of the flatbed. The force of the impact spun the truck around, scattering its load of recycling bins.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Engle said the railroad crossing is marked there, but there are no cross arms.
