Truck driver arrested for DUI after Tuesday crash

EVERSON, Wash. -- A Canadian truck driver was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed his truck into a pair of Whatcom County power poles Tuesday afternoon.
The driver was hauling 30,000 pounds of rubber pellets on State Route 9 just east of Everson at 1:50 p.m. when the accident happened, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary.
The driver, a 34-year old man from Surrey, B.C., was heading southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road, causing his truck to roll over and slide into two power poles.
A stretch of the road was closed to traffic for several hours as crews worked to remove the truck and the debris.

I was recently rear-ended by a semi out of Surrey Canada. Â The driver failed to stop when traffic stopped at the 167/405 merge. Â He plowed right into me, then swerved across 167 and hit the barrier. Â I have since found out, if you are hit by a driver out of Canada, good luck collecting if they are at fault. Â The Canadian insurance investigated does not acknowledge police reports completed by Washington State Troopers. Â Needless to say, even though he received a ticket and admitted fault, his insurance company will not pay! Â Not to mention they have treated me rudely and aggressively when I have tried to gather information! Â Canadian drivers should stay in Canada!
Probably wasnt even under the infulence, he is probably on perscription that doesnt effect his ability to drive, it was probably a dumb ass driver of a car who caused this, everyone picks on truck drivers when really its other drivers who make there lifes hell and screw things up.
@@amber@ You must be a cannuck to talk like this....  If you are, please go back to canada and if you are not, please move there...   :)  :)  :)  :)
They should do breathalizers at the border.
So, maybe THAT'S why most every Semi with BC plates on it is driving like ____!
Â
I constantly see the BC rigs tailgating, speeding, weaving, driving in the left lane, etc etc and not just "once in a while" but ALL THE TIME.Â
Â
It's past time to institute random breathalyzer checkpoints on our roads, like other States do.
 @TheTruncheon Second that.
@TheTruncheon Probably because of the Indian, and Pakistani drivers they employ. They are notoriously bad drivers.
Too true!
Big rig drivers should have tougher sentences for DUI since the vehicles they are in control of can do an outrageous amount of damage.
Â
So how does this work? Is he going to be prosecuted here or sent back to Canada to face charges? If he is stuck here and is charged and convicted here, will he be allowed back in Canada because I think the law is if you have a DUI you can't get into Canada.
@Tattooed_Angel They don't have tougher laws, but with a CDL here in the US, if you blow .02 or more, you get a DUII. Doesn't make much sense?
@XLRG  @Tattooed_Angel DUI is a felony in Canada
Â
@Nic Stevens From what I've heard, you can't get into Canada if you have a DUI on your record. If they keep him and charge him here, will it affect him getting home or is the DUI overruled by his citizenship?
@XLRG  @Tattooed_Angel I think we should have tougher laws all together across the board.
1 less law-breaking, erratic Canadian off of our roadways
I'd like to know the injury status of the driver...that cab is pretty #!*#!* up.
No kidding. The drunks often survive.
