Trucker reports knifing along interstate in Ore.
CORBETT, Ore. (AP) - The Oregon State Police say a trucker from Nebraska stopped along Interstate 84 reported that an assailant cut him Friday morning.
The police say the trucker reported he pulled over at a viewpoint parking area east of Corbett in the Columbia Gorge because it appeared traffic was stopped after a crash.
He said two men approached asking for money and cigarettes. The police said the driver told them he didn't have any to give them, and one of the two men pulled a knife and attacked.
The police say the driver struggled with the two men, who fled in a dark SUV. The driver was treated for minor hand, arm and stomach wounds and released from a hospital. He was identified as 39-year-old Edwin J. Jones of Plymouth, Neb.

This is exactly why I am always wary and on the defense when a stranger approaches my car. In my younger years I had no problem stopping to pick up a hitch hiker or give a smoke to someone who asks for one never realizing how dangerous it could be. I know better now.
@Tattooed_Angel I use to be the same way. Had a bad incident once over 30 years ago. Got a concealed weapons permit and now the only time I stop to help someone is when I have my gun on. Still ok to help people, just need to use a little caution.
@Tattooed_Angel I am right there with ya.Times have changed and are for ever changing. We all seem to have a target on our back these days.
Poor trucker, this poor guy has to deal with all kinds of weather, dumba** drivers, and so many different state laws. It would be nice to have people respect truck drivers and not mess with them. Can you just picture what would happen if all truck drivers decided to go on strike?

I hope they catch these two guys.
Had 2 attempted robbings when I was driving truck. Situational awareness. You have to pay attention to whats going on around you. I think one of my attackers may of died. I didn't hang around to see how bad his head wound was after I smacked him with my tire thumper.
@Blindman If the police are looking for someone who killed someone with a "tire thumper", they don't have to go to far now. I really hope you reported it and not just take off. Your comment may get you in allot of trouble otherwise.
@Just my say  @Blindman Out of state. Don't care. The guy got what he deserved. There were actually 2 guys there. The other one was smart enough to walk away. Got shot at in Salt Lake City. Reported that one and the cops didn't even care. They didn't even bother to have me file a police report.
@Blindman OK its your life and your choice. However thank you for being a truck driver and dealing with all this crap.Â
