Two Seattle police officers arrested for DUI, hit-and-run
SEATTLE -- Two Seattle police officers accused of drunkenly crashing into a light pole and leaving the scene were arrested early Monday morning.
The officers, who were both off duty at the time, were driving in Seattle's SoDo area just after midnight on Monday when they hit what a witness described as a light pole, according to police.
The witness told police that after the crash, the female driver stopped the car in the middle of the street, got out and switched places with her male passenger.
Officers found the car roughly two miles away parked in the roadway with the motor running. When police approached the car, they immediately recognized the occupants as Seattle police officers.
According to the arrest report, the female officer -- who was in the passenger seat -- repeatedly swore at the arresting officers and appeared "extremely intoxicated." The woman originally denied driving the car, but later admitted to being behind the wheel, according to the report.
After being taken to the department's North Precinct for processing, the woman became combative and told an officer he "wasn't a real cop" because she had been on the force longer. When the officer informed her that he, in fact, had been an officer "considerably longer than her," the woman rushed towards him in "an aggressive manner" and had to be restrained by another officer.
The woman eventually took two breath tests. Her blood alcohol level was .234 and .247. The legal limit for adults in Washington state is .08. The male officer blew .161 and .149. The woman was processed for DUI and the man was processed for DUI-physical control. Both were released.
The car, which was not owned by the city, was impounded. SPD has initiated the Office of Professional Accountability complaint process and both officers have been administratively reassigned to home.
Investigators are asking the City Attorney's Office to consider charges of DUI and Hit and Run for the female off-duty officer and DUI-Physical Control and Hit and Run for the male off-duty officer.

Sounds like the woman has no business owning a gun. I notice they are carefully not even mentioning if these two were armed at the time.
This is really sad, I have worked with law enforcement officers for many years, and YES there is a double standard. When my son just turned 21 he got a DWI, first time DWI and he was sentenced to ONE year in jail, and because they sent his suspended lic. notice to a wrong address he also received ONE year for driving on suspended lic. He did a total of 18 months in a county jail. Also did 30 days inpatient rehab and a fine of $1400.00. I couldn't afford an attorney so he did the time.  But this is only one instance with my unfortunate problems with law enforcement.  I could write a book. I have never been able to afford an attorney to help us. I have never been in trouble and haven't had a speeding ticket in 40 years, but I was arrested by State Patrol Officer and charged with Obstructing. He told me to get back in my car and when I starated to he ran and hit me from behind arrested me ( I was 60 years old ) I could barely walk for 2 weeks, went to the E.R. I hired an attorney but at the last minute he told me he was too busy and couldn't take the case, I had 4 days to find another attorney.   I have been to parties with Officers, Prosecutors and they all drink and drive. There is a double standard, These two will only get a slap on the wrist,  Paid leave...imagine that. Â
The Portland police are poisoners and framers Eric Carlson the cop was having an affair with my wife Joan Wagar and he and his partners gave my wife permission to poison me to death and I was a regular plasma donor at the time! In 2007 Eric Carlson and his partner John Ray tried to frame me for a murder they committed, they committed a early morning break in on March 26th 2007 and they raped, photographed, and killed a female child named Jesica! and they broke into my home to plant evidence in my apartment and my wife Joan Wagar helped them by opening her bedroom window for them to let them into our home while I was sleeping on the couch! Eric Carlson was acting as a body double to frame me and his partners John Ray and Erica were photographing Eric Carlson having sex with a child! Their break in woke me up and I at first thought I was catching my wife in her affair with an armed police officer so I put a audio recorder in my wife's purse and then laid back down on my couch knowing my wife will be leaving for work soon! I not only caught them in their affair I caught them in a murder and I caught them planting evidence in my home to frame me for it! Eric Carlson and John Ray and Joan Wagar bragged about their crimes to Joan Wagar's sister Vickie Rosales at Clackamas Walmart and my audio recorder caught that as well! My 911 calls are covered up by Portland police and I have been denied emergency services ever since my wife started an affair with a Portland police officer! My complaints are covered up and ignored by police and hospitals and I am severely disabled from being poisoned! Eric Carlson and his partners in law enforcement have been stalking me and renting apartments around mine on and off for years now and all complaints I make are covered up and ignored! I caught Joan Wagar and Eric Carlson waiting in ambush just outside my doorway at 5:45 am on July 2009 and they were armed with guns and they were recording with a camcorder and a cellphone! they were going to shoot me when I take my dog for a walk and they were going to record me being shot! Eric Carlson's partner Shannon was wearing a baseball hat hiding behind a van and trailer when I opened my door and I saw him dive behind the trailer so I grabbed my camcorder and aimed it at the trailer trying to see who it was! To my shock and horror my wife Joan Wagar and her lover the cop Eric Carlson were waiting in ambush just outside my door! http://prntscr.com/m3bi4 http://prntscr.com/m3bpv http://prntscr.com/m3bun http://s1324.photobucket.com/albums/u604/WifePoisonedMe/?action=view¤t=Neighborsthatframedme_zps0659e809.mp4 The body double and the poisoner caught on video outside my doorway waiting in ambush for me to step outside and their caught fleeing the scene! Eric Carlson had his gun in his right hand alongside his camcorder which is why he is holding his camcorder in a odd way and Joan Wagar was recording with her cellphone in her right hand and she had her gun hidden in her shirt in her left hand! Terry Wagar
Notice when a cop commits the crime they do not show mug shots of them! why not!? stop protecting criminal cops you show mug shots of anyone else accused of a crime and arrested so show the cops mug shots!
And I want the names of the arresting officer's made public as well!
Darn look at what they are having to pay these people for protecting the public... I cannot believe some of them get paid so little money for the job they do... have they ever considered what they are offering as compensation is the direct result of the caliber of candidates they get?
why is that when the average joe off the street get nailed for Dui, he is thrown in jail with a hefty fine and alchohol classes and god knows what else....but cops get processed and go on their merry way????
@cierra19er16@yahoo.com One rule for them and another for us.... these two are complete d-bags and deserve the stiffest of punishments....
Fire both of these officers...SPD needs a house cleaning and if that means they have to can a significant portion of their police force then so BE IT! .. I fail to understand why they think they cannot get better candidates! In fairness they are not all bad but the bad seeds need to be cutoff as they are poisoning the SPD reputation for the officers that are doing their jobs inside the lines of the law... I have met plenty of good ones so I know they have them, and they DO NOT NEED ones like this on the force!
Classic....... Merry Christmas d-bags............. I hope the judge throws the book at you complete idiots....... sworn to uphold the law........ what a complete crock of BS! I hope your brother and sister officers spit on the ground before you.....
.234 and .161 they were really drunk. I still don't why people can't drink and stay put. There must be some hidden urge in drinking and needing to go somewhere. It's hard to believe cops didn't have the presence of mind to know they were drunk and call a taxi.
Perfect. Just perfect.
Every company that exists will fire you the second you get a DUI if you have to drive on the job ever. Â Eating popcorn while waiting for this to play out.
Reassigned to home but still getting paid
 @Dhnr That's what gets me!
At what point do we stop saying, "Well, this is just a bad egg. Most of the SPD are great cops!"
Â
Seems like half the damn department has been in the news the last few years.
It sounds like it is true they were not on the clock. Hope they weren't going to be within the next few hours after their drunken binge including hit and run. I will say even though they weren't on the clock they can't be the type of people hired to serve and protect. There has to be many fine cops on that force who are union members. I don't understand why they don't go to the union and demand that  these type are not protected.I also question how much the force really cares about public perception. It seems like it all could be a facade and guys like Diaz are looking for a couple more years til a fine retirement kicks in then someone else can have the problems.I mean really... why would they truly care what we think? I agree this incident will be swept under the carpet just like the Seattle Cop driving drunk and running into someone in Mukilteo earlier in the year. Oh, they'll get reprimanded and maybe reduced in rank  with a requirement to take alcohol classes. Well, I"ve blabbered enough now and I'm going to fix me some Cornflakes and blueberries.
Break out the brooms SPD! Sweep this under the carpet just like that clown in Mukilteo last year. http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2016636808_spddui29m.html I wonder what the ultimate result was?
fa lafila fa lafila YOU'RE FIRED. -The Don.
Fire Her. End of story .
Sounds like business as usual within the seattle police department
@Harrison Yes a charming couple.
SPD... AGAIN. WHAT A BUNCH OF WORTHLESS TURDS!
Fire them!!!
Why were they released?
The citizens deserve to know their names. The Freedom on Information Act will make sure we do.Â
@I AM CATALYST5 I AM I'm sure eventually it will come out.
@I AM CATALYST5 I AM My Northwest, com has the police report. The names are blacked out. Wink wink, but i was able to make one of the names out.
Lol, another tabloid piece....if this was any private citizen, it wouldn't even be news. Stay classy komo
@Common Sense Police are held to a higher standard you moron.
@Quackula  @Common Sense @Quackula, plus she's wrong.  There are articles about this type of thing regarding common citizen's all the time.  If you've been here awhile on this board you'd know you can count on the fact that Common Sense has no common sense.  Now, of course, you do.  I'm pretty sure she's a 13 year old in her parent's basement who has difficulty making friends. Â
They should be treated just like any other citizen. Neither were on the clock when this happened.
@Elaine Keary WolcottÂ
I know that those with a commercial drivers license (CLD) are always considered to be "on duty" as the state sees no difference between a CDL and a regular drivers license. The standard for being under the influence with a CDL is 0.04 rather than the 0.08 no matter what you are driving. Police officers (I believe) can always be considered "on duty" pertaining to arrest, etc.  I think police should be held to a higher standard than the general public. If a police officer commits a crime such as DUI and hit and run while off duty, it reflects the type of poor choices they could make while on duty. I am also going to state that this opinion is a general opinion, not directed at the officers in question as they have not been found guilty of the crimes for which they stand to be accused of.
Â
I would be interested in knowing if either was carrying a firearm at the time. In my opinion, if they had a firearm in their possession (especially if it was their police issued sidearm), there could be no other way of looking at it other than they were on duty.
By the way, KOMO, why haven't you posted the names of the drunken officers? You post the names of other adults when they are arrested.
Where I work, we don't have a union to protect the incompetent, irresponsible, and dangerous. I have seen this happen: if you are arrested and it looks bad, you are fired. If you are convicted, no problem, you don't work there anymore. If you are acquitted, you get a new interview. Washington is an "at will" employment state. Either party may terminate the agreement at any time, with or without cause. Agreements with a union that protects corrupt and felonious officers aren't helping SPD to play a clean game.
These two zombies should be expelled from the force, drivers liscenses suspended for 1 year, and their mug shot photos posted for all to see. They are just very lucky that nobody was killed, although if the zombies had comitted suicide, this world would be a better place.
why didn't the arresting officer shoot this drunken woman when she charged him?
Â
oh well, you know, just a couple of bad apples....(rolls eyes)
Does it ever end? Chief Diaz called me personally a year ago to apologize for officer misconduct, and i appreciated that and believed and still do he is a good officer, noble, and doing his job as best he can. The department needs to make some radical changes though.
@northwestsurfer Starts with firing the Mayor...........
Don't worry SPD will blow this off as a Xmas party with do much good time..
This is how police usually get a promotion.Â

Please lok up the word "Joke".
How is hitting a pole considered hit and run?
Â
These two officers should be ashamed of dishonoring the code.
@Vince And it is more than just hitting another vehicle. Hitting property too (light pole in this case).  As my son learned, hitting someone's fence and leaving the scene qualifies for hit and run.
@Vince If you hit an un-occupied car and leave the scene without reporting it, it's still hit and run...
It's awful easy to say "clean house".
However, if they can not enact a nearly revolutionary standards & practices as it pertains to behavior, both on AND off the job - it ain't gonna matter WHO is in charge.
@Throbbinhood Yeah, but like I said down below, obviously, I'm not advocating that the department enact standards and practices as it pertains to behavior off the job but is it too much to ask that they don't BREAK THE LAW while they're off duty?Â
@Throbbinhood Rate things keep going, it may be awfully easy TO clean house: start over from zero. Sigh...
@JLS1950 @Throbbinhood Starting to think they should implement something like Police Academy 4; Citizens on Patrol

"administratively reassigned to home." Getting paid to be arrested for a .234 and .247? Awesome way to win over the taxpayer. What double standard?
no kidding. nice Orwell style double speak also......"assigned to home" - now THAT is comedy.
