SEATTLE (AP) - A Seattle police report on an incident involving Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins said the driver of a vehicle involved in a weekend accident had a bloody nose consistent with hitting his face on the windshield and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.
Names are redacted in the report released Monday by the Seattle Police Department, but a detective said Sunday that Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The school also released a statement Sunday acknowledging Seferian-Jenkins was involved in an incident Saturday night.
The police report states the vehicle was found at the bottom of a catch basin at a park near the University of Washington. The driver objected to medical care, but was eventually placed on a backboard and transported to Harborview Medical Center. He objected to a blood test at the hospital before police obtained a search warrant to draw his blood.
The driver was released from police custody to remain in the hospital's care at 3:40 a.m. PDT.
The only people discussed in the report are the driver and one witness, whose names are redacted. The report was released by police in response to a request for information on an incident involving Seferian-Jenkins.
In a statement Sunday, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian said Seferian-Jenkins made decisions "that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes."
"He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies," Sarkisian said. "We will continue to support Austin throughout this process, while also holding him accountable and responsible for his actions."
Last season, Seferian-Jenkins caught 69 passes for 850 yards - both single-season records for Washington tight ends - and seven touchdowns. He was one of three finalists for the Mackey Award given to the top tight end in the country and was named a third-team all-American by the AP.

He would be off the team if he wasn't a star but Sark doesn't haven't the backbone to kick him off the team. If he was a practice squad kick returner he would be on the streets. Instead he will get a warning and be suspended for spring spractice or something stupid.
@eclector Wow, so much for going by the rules.  And Sark hasn't even issued punishment, yet.  He will, and I'm sure you will gripe about whatever it is. Â
I find it a little silly how many people are willing to throw the first stone...I would put some pretty serious money down that most of the people on here slamming him have driven a vehicle of some type while over the legal limit. Just because you didn't get caught doesn't make you righteous. Best of luck ASJ, learn from your poor choice.
@Cheetoh734 And most people that choose to drive drunk pay the consequences if caught. In WA state this is very low due to the current laws are not tough enough to stop people from making the lapse is judgement the first time. Luckily for Seferian-Jenkins this just meant running off the road without killing someone. And if you read the police report Seferian-Jenkins did everything he could possible do to prevent the police from obtaining blood to determine alcohol levels including naming a non existent lawyer. He knew all the angles to work the system to try to beat the system which means he considered his actions well before getting drunk and driving. The typical "it won't happen to me" attitude too many of our youth die from. He does not need a car in college so having a driving suspension means nothing to him. If UW is serious about their rules that look good on paper then Seferian-Jenkins should be stripped of all benefits of having a football scholarship. I will lay down money this won't happen and this is what most people on this topic are complaining about, that another dumb (by his actions) athlete is going to skate while other people having the same lapse of judgement will pay to the limit and have their life altered for the worse because of it just because they don't have the same athletic talent as Seferian-Jenkins.Â
Yep, he's the guy

@Illuminati Now so does Winnie Mandela...
For some reason my response to Throbbin and Sunny would'nt work, so I'll try it this way:
Well, people get caught drinking and driving everyday. It includes doctors, lawyers, fireman, insulators, mayors, cops, shipyard workers, you get it, it is a never ending list. Should everyone that gets caught drinking and driving loose everything? You have got to be kidding me. It doesn't work that way. Hopefully Austin will learn never to drive after he has had a few. Did you read that attached article? Didn't think so. It says so much about Austin.
@Karma65Â yes, it should all be loost. peepil who dive drunk should loose quite a bit, imo "can't do the time, don't do the crime"
@Karma65Â Who said ANYTHING about "losing everything"?
All I believe a mass majority of people want is to lose the casual mindset that DUI is only a brief lapse in judgement, and that the punishment for such an act have much more teeth to it.Â
Remember these fine points, whether you're that doctor, that lawyer, or that stellar football player: ***CONSCIOUS DECISION", "DELIBERATE DECISION", "DISREGARD FOR FELLOW CITIZENS' SAFETY & WELL-BEING".
What about that could people not possibly understand???
easy does it - this is standard UW tight end procedure. somewhere Hope Solo is getting excited...
Scoreboard, BabyÂ

@Karma65Â the world is full of people who have not been given a free pass as sports figures are and they go a whole life without getting a dui in most cases.
this guy, given all the perks of a sports figure couldn't figure out how to get home without a dui?
take away his scholarship! it has been provided time and time again the example of how these guys turn out to be dregs of society with a massive sense of entitlement.
@sunnysandiego
He isn't being given a free pass, he has earned it through hard work and determination. He is far from the dreg of society, he is a young man who made a mistake. In stead of crushing his future why not have him serve society through community and social works. Wouldn't that be a better alternative that stripping him of his scholarship.
âMay you find yourself the bullâs-eye of an easy target.May you be publicly flogged for all of your bad choices, and may your nose be rubbed in all of your mistakes.â â Runaway Bride
Answer this how many times have you inspired a child with terminal cancer.
@sunnysandiego THANK YOU!!!!
@Justaguy Man - to say your tolerance of those who drive drunk is totally astounding would be an understatement., to say the least.
Either you are in serious denial, or you must be one of the legislators in Olympia who absolutely REFUSES to put fourth or lobby for the stiff punishment DUI deserves.
And by the way - despite your attempts at steering away from the subject with a cute lesson with the dictionary - DUI IS an elective choice, NOT a mistake. To not understand that is to be truly naive and or completely stupid.
So the number of times you have inspired a child with terminal cancer is zero?
How many innocent people were killed by this young man's DUI? zero
Punishing him because of the impacts by others is not what our judicial system is about.
@Justaguy dui kills innocent people every day
End of conversation sorry
@Karma65Â OK - I'll bite: Why would someone so seemingly stellar make the conscious & deliberate decision to drink and drive (often and incorrectly labeled as a "mistake"), and why should we grant him some sort of immunity in regards to that poor, deliberate decision, over any other person that decides to take liberties with others' safety and well-being?
@Throbbinhood @Karma65 Well said.
mistake -
noun
1. an error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc.
Making a mistake doesn't excuse someone from the associated punishment. He shouldn't get immunity because of his status but he should also not received enhanced punishment because of it either. All should be treated equally in the court of law and all should be assumed innocent until proven guilty.Â
@Justaguy While I agree with your sentiments, I disagree this was a mistake. It was a choice, albeit a poor one.
A mistake is something you make in math calculations...
C'mon, Sark - SEND THE MESSAGE!!!
no excuse
yank his scholarship and give it to a nerdy person who will contribute in a positive way to society
obviously he is not going to be contributing at this rate
@sunnysandiego He will just apply for the supplemental draft in June and be making a couple million a year by mid summer.  Boy you taught him.
How about he stay in school and serve what ever punishment the school dishes out and then comply with what the court directs for first offense (which is normal for most people that get a DUI).
Forfeit the scholarship!!!!! And grow up!!
What is it with being a star tight - end and DUI? Does the name Jerremy Stevens ring a bell? Someone please explain this to me. Austin , do you want to end up like him???
@napmasterg rich and married to hope solo? things could be worse for him.
@napmasterg Good point - I wish I'd thought of that....
Jerramy Stevens 2.0
"...He adds it's common for people arrested for DUI to be released...."
That's our FIRST mistake in how we treat DUI.
Shocking, another drunk driver stopped in Seattle...
@komonews I blame the media
@dw_vinton @komonews You blame the media for this guy being a fool? Glad he didn't kill an innocent.
@komonews yeah drinking's not a problem in this country....
