Vancouver man, 73, gets 23 years for killing wife
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A 73-year-old Vancouver man has been sentenced to more than 23 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife of more than two decades over a financial dispute related to their pending divorce.
The Columbian reports that the sentence given Victor Frye was the maximum under state sentencing guidelines.
Deputy Prosecutor Dan Gasperino said the man shot his 67-year-old wife Nita six times last Nov. 12 after he found her handwritten notes indicating she had plans for their money that differed from what they previously had agreed upon.
Superior Court Judge Daniel Stahnke told the defendant he'd listened to an audio recording of Frye's confession, in which the man described how his wife repeatedly pleaded for her life.
The judge told Frye "it's a terrible thing you did to Nita, to her family and to your family."
Frye pleaded guilty Jan. 22 to a reduced charge of second-degree murder.

Great now we the taxpayers get to foot the bill for his elder care.
This guy may have made out like a bandit. He'll be locked up, but he has someone to cook his meals for him, laundry will be taken care of and no more bills. He must have been very unpleasant to live with. Now he can enjoy the rest of his life surrounded by other unpleasant men like himself LOL!
It's nice that some justice has actually been done for once.
Now who says maturity comes with age? This guy just gave the rebuttal!
Wow. I'm glad the judge saw fit to end his freedom for the rest of his life, and that's the way it should be if you deliberately cause someone to die. I only wish drunk drivers who kill people were subjected to similarly harsh sentences.
You know what's so interesting, is that a guy like is given a life sentence, pretty much, but the 20 year old gang-bangers seem to get super light sentences for killing people. The sentencing is all over the place here. Â
Well, that oughta put a bookend on that.
