Video shows star UW player getting punched after Apple Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. -- First came the celebrations after Washington State's victory in the Apple Cup, and now, the controversy.
It appears one of the Huskies' top players was punched by a fan after the game ended.
Video posted on YouTube seems to show UW tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins taking a fist to the face from a stranger as Cougar fans rushed the field after their improbable victory Friday night.
Seferian-Jenkins has remained tight-lipped about the incident, but took to Twitter to address it, telling a friend publicly: "It's all good." And responding to a direct message request from KOMO News with "I'm fine. Thank you for asking."
A University of Washington spokesman wouldn't comment about what happened on the field, but off the gridiron, fan reaction has been swift.
"At the end of the day it's only a game," said UW junior Nate Iannuccillo. "You don't want to see anyone get hurt like that."
Sophomore Danielle Olson echoed those sentiments.
"We understand that WSU and UW have always had maybe a heated rivalry," Olson said. "But no one expected something like that to occur."
Of course, it's not the first time the Apple Cup has descended into something not so great. In 2010, fans from both sides hurled snowballs at each other, and one band member ended up in stitches.
Eight years prior, it was beer bottles that flew through the air.
Campus police in Pullman are now investigating this most recent incident. WSU's assistant police chief Steve Hansen says they are going under the assumption it was likely a fan who was behind this.
“We’re starting an investigation to see if we can track down what happened there. We’re trying to get the video from the stadium to see what went on," Hansen said. "I don’t know who else it would be other than a fan."
If the person is found, he could face a charge of assault or disorderly conduct.

Not just the apple cup either, my friend was attacked by four WSU students after the Oregon game a few years back as well. Â What these frat boys didn't anticipate was their intended victim was actually a Vandals lineman. Â After he body slammed the first attacker to the ground the other three backed down faster than the French.
Watch the video closely......ASJ got dropped right after he pushed a girl in "red" with dark hair. Â The guy that actually laid him out is wearing a dark jacket & stocking hat. Â This is why ASJ is tight lipped about it.....
The punchee was in the press con after the game and had no marks on his face. I would assume if you hit a 265 pound man in the face with enough force to knock him over it would leave a mark.Â
Â
Most likely was shoved to the ground. Not that it's a ton better.
Â
Also, you can see him running into a student (or a student running into him). Did he say something? Did he push the person off or try to help them from falling? All things we don't know.
Â
Â
@yournamehere OMG, you are an idiot.  Seek help.
That sucks, the kid should get prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but let's not pretend that this only happens in Pullman. Also, I think it's a far reach to call it a punch on that video, and also the person appears to be wearing purple or blue, not red as the caption indicates, but maybe that doesn't fit the writer's agenda as well.
Talk about a class act that part of the state Pullman...
I love the Apple Cup and the rivalry (Husky here,) but that's just taking it too far, no matter which fan base the puncher was from. Yes, we lost, but we deserved to lose (definitely were not playing well.)Â
Â
Â
Last UW game I went to was vs. Nebraska. Â I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend who was a former player for Nebraska in the early 70's, and who was lucky enough to be apart of 2 championship teams. Â As we were walking to the game we had several people scream vulgarities at us, and one UW fan even spit at us. Â
Â
I do agree that this was way out of line, and shouldn't have happened, but those making comments about this happening only in Pullman are completely wrong. Â UW fans who talk about how classless WSU fans are need to look in the mirror. Â Â
@KRM66 Says the guy that references Jeremy Stevens and Hope Solo.  Get help.
Maybe it was Jeremy Stevens and Hope Solo? Â
Â
 @KRM66 Get help.
Plenty of blame to go around. No one reported the fact that Husky players danced on the Cougar logo at midfield after the Cougs went into the locker room after warmups. Also, did anyone notice that the supposed suspect was wearing purple. No Coug fan ever wears purple to the Apple Cup. As upset as the Husky fans were after the loss, one wonders!!!!
Â
Stay classy kids stay classy!
By the way, ASJ was quoted as saying he is 'praying for the guy', as the guy has some serious problems in life to do something cowardly like that. Â Â
That guy is lucky ASJ has class and didn't see it coming, or the kid would be in the hospital. Â Wow, imagine if any of the fellow teammates would have seen that... things would have gotten ugly.
Â
Alright. Let's stop pointing fingers at one fanbase or another. Here's the deal:
Â
Alcohol + Football = Idiot Fans
Â
Um Kay?
Â
Every college and professional stadium has idiots like that.  However, whoever did that to Seferian-Jenkins was a sackless wonder.  End of story.
That Husky got his ass beat twice.
@Anim8ed And both times were by idiots that didn't deserve to be on the field.
@SureHandz  @Anim8ed  I agree the fan didn't deserve to be on the field, but lets be honest, UW didn't play well enough to beat a team ranked #110 in the country. Â
What a moron. Coming from a Coug alum I hope this idiot gets ID'd and kicked out of school so he is no longer recognized as a member of our family. It's a flipping football game, celebrate your team's win and if you walk by a member of another team say good game and keep walking. So incredibly dumb.
@eclector I hear you man. I'm Cougar Alumni too.. it's just taking it too far and gives our school a bad rep. It ruins the fun of competition and spirit of winning and celebrating.. when we win like a bunch of jerks.. in that case, in the grand scheme of things you actually lose. Have fun celebrating and all, but be respectful and humble about it. I agree, kick him out of our games and the Cougar family. That was just outrageous.
glad they are looking into it... assault is never ok.
WHAT? NO FLAG?
It doesnt matter whose side you are on, this is uncalled for and lacks total class.Â
Who says it was a WSU fan that punched him??
@GOCOUGS True.. it could have just been some crazy idiot.
@GOCOUGS This question makes sense coming from you.... 'GOCOUGS'
Using basic powers of deduction, wouldn't most conclude it was a Cougar fan? However, maybe Pullman is a 'logic-free zone"?
@speaktruth I did not come to that conclusion at all. I thought a Husky fan with too much stake on the game was mad at the player for losing.
Another proud moment for Cougar nation.
Not cool.
That sucks, play your heart out, and then get attacked out of nowhere. Â
WSU always puts the "K" in classy.
Stay classy, Wazzu. Really.
Anyone notice how this stuff only happens on "even" years? (Aka only in Pullman).
@skiracingbum28 Actually my buddies were leaving the Apple cup last year and had two UW fans try hitting them with beer bottles and chased them to their car! Yeah stuff doesn't only happen in Pullman. My friends that are Huskies have actually had better experiences in Pullman that us Cougs have had at UW.........
@skiracingbum28 Slow your roll there.  In 2005 there was an incident with Husky players trying to fight Cougar fans.Â

@deadcandance Would 'All-American' or 'John Mackey Award Finalist' work better for you?
As a Cougar fan I will be the first to say, this guy is an idiot. Â There is no room for that even in a heated rivalry. Â Unfortunately, every team has fans that are idiots and do idiotic things. Â This has somewhat spoiled what was a great win. Â On behalf of Cougar Nation, IÂ apologize to ASJ. #GoCougsÂ
@The206 From a still-pouting Husky fan, kudos for a great win. Everyone knows it's never a totally losing season if you manage to take the Apple Cup, no matter how unpleasant the other 10 games may have gone.Â
Â
Now everyone, whether you bleed purple and gold, crimson and gray, or any other color combination an we PLEASE go back to the friendly, fun, reasonably civilized rivalry sports fandom used to be?Â
