WA man convicted of rape of Filipino immigrant

PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — A Jefferson County jury has found a Brinnon man guilty of 41 counts of rape and assault against the Filipino woman he brought to his home with the promise of marriage.
The Peninsula Daily News reports that 49-year-old Patrick John McAllister was arrested more than two years ago and had been free on bail. His conviction was handed down Friday.
Court documents say that McAllister was introduced to the woman when she was 22. He began a long-distance relationship with her, eventually visiting her in the Philippines in 2008 and promised marriage.
She arrived in Seattle on March 14, 2010, and was brought to McAllister's home in Brinnon, where charging documents say there were 24 instances of sexual violence in about a month. She escaped the home and sought police.
McAllister's attorney says they will appeal.

Since this relationship didn't work out so well, I'm looking forward to Patrick's new love as the blushing bride of Bubba. How romantic!

On a serious note, my sympathy to the young lady, so tragically exploited.
@JoeyM People believe lies every day. And what a tragedy that  the US courts failed so badly. This is an innocent man who was set up so that a foreigner could easily stay here instead of going  back to her sorry life in a poor country
Good thing she escaped. Murder was most likely on his mind afterwards.
@angkor_warrior Wow!!!!! I cant believe that people believe her, He was set up, there was no proof. Our justice system failed horribly
Some people are under the crazy impression bringing over a mail order bride gives them ownership of that person. If she didn't want sex, this guy had no business touching her.
@eichler34 Or mabey she lied?????  I know this guy, he is my friend  and he is innocent, The lack of proof was incredible the simple fact is that if she said she was raped she got to stay in the country, he was set up, that is the truth.
I was briefly aquainted with a very strange guy that was obsessed with doing just this! The guy worked 3 jobs and rented out his one bedroom apt (he slept in the living room) to save money to buy a Filipino bride. It was highly disturbing!! Maybe they were related?!?!
Â
Really, though, I'm glad this poor woman got away!
@NWMonster I am ashamed of our judicial system and the ignorance of some people not getting all of the facts and condemning the innocentÂ
Hate to say it but as a wise man once said, TANSTAAFL. Legalize prostitution so that filthbags like this can get their jollies without tricking women from other countries into moving here to his nightmare.
@thatsjarrod Or how about a women and her brother in law plotting to tell some life ruining lies in order to get to stay in the country
@thatsjarrod Where did you see or read anything about the wanting to PAY for what he took? Where does it say he was willing to "share" - as e.g. a prostitute with other "johns"? This fellow made promises until he managed to isolate his prey, and then he pounced. That is the behavior of a sexual predator from start to finish. This woman - had she not escaped when she did - might well have ended up a homicide victim as well.
I think the whole "mail order bride" thing needs to either go away or prostitution needs to be legalized. The guy in this situation needs to be charged not only with the rape and assaults but also trafficking or whatever additional charges they can find.Â
@thirtysomethingnwnative SHE LIED. IF A FOREIGNER CLAIMS RAPE THEY GET TO STAY HERE. People Love to pass judgement and assume guilt. I know this man personally and I would bet my own life that he is innocent
Heres the deal she lied, said she was raped because there is a loop hole. Claim rape you get to stay. I know this man the system failed. He is innocent
@thirtysomethingnwnative It's really very sad that some men think the solution to the problem of criminalized abuse of mail order brides is legalized prostitution. The problem is that lots of men think they should have the right to own (or rent) a woman.
@thirtysomethingnwnative Completely wrong to equate mail order brides with prostitution. Beyond that, I agree: this fellow was engaged in human trafficking, sexual predation, forcible rape... He would not have stopped with one, either.
@thirtysomethingnwnative Completely agree with you on the need to charge him with human trafficking, he clearly brought her here for the purpose of sexually exploiting her. Don't just throw the book at him, throw the whole darn library.
