WSP: 1 dead, 4 hurt when sleeping driver crashes into wall

TOUTLE, Wash. -- A 62-year-old woman was killed and four others were hurt in a crash near Toutle Sunday afternoon.

Troopers say Srinivasan Subraminam was driving west on SR-504 around 4:30 p.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel. His car veered across the roadway and struck an uphill rock embankment, troopers said.

Passenger Mythili Gopalan was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report.

Subraminam and three other passengers, including a 4-year-old boy, were taken to St. John's Hospital but their conditions were not known.

Troopers say they don't suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
