WSP trooper injured in Clallam County crash

PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured Friday afternoon when he crashed his patrol car while chasing down a speeder near Morse Creek.

The trooper was heading eastbound on Highway 101 at 4 p.m. when he saw a car speeding in the opposite direction, according to trooper Russ Winger.

The trooper turned around and was trying to catch up to the speeder when he lost control on a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane. Winger said the trooper crashed into a Toyota Tundra.

The trooper was taken to Olympia Medical Center in Port Angeles with back and neck pain. The Tundra driver wasn't injured.

Troopers closed all but one of the lanes on Highway 101 near the crash site to investigate and clear the scene. The highway should be completely open to traffic sometime Friday night, Winger said.
