WSP trooper resigns after having sex with DUI driver

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A Yakima Washington state trooper investigated for having sex with a woman after a drunken driving arrest has resigned.
Trooper Travis Lamb told KIMA he resigned from his dream job over the way the investigation was handled.
Patrol spokesman Bob Calkins told the station investigators believe Lamb violated misconduct rules.
Both sides say the sex last March was consensual. Lamb went to the woman's house after she was released from jail. He was in uniform but off duty. Prosecutors did not charge him.

All the critical remarks on here have nothing to do with what happened - it's just an outlet for you cop-haters. This guy at the VERY worst violated a department policy, not a law. Nothing was revealed that he performed "OFFICIAL Misconduct". Impropriety, is just that. It's when you have to grimace of what the norm of the area within the scope of his employment would question. This wasn't on duty, and if his department has him gong to and from work in uniform, again  - not even a departmental investigation. So all of those out there demonizing this young man who made a "Questionable" decision based on his department policy, tale a look in the mirror - I'm sure these guy has more scruples than you, and for the rest - yeah he got some....jealous?
He probably works for DOC now.Â
idiot thinking with his little badge
Cops should know better - one of the reasons for their high divorce rate, is they go after ANYTHING that will open up them legs, and I do mean ANYTHING!
Too bad he doesn't sue HER!
Oh no, Dorner didn't like the way his investigation was handled either . . . .
@ThinkN_Do Ridiculous comparison.Â
He resigned after the way the investigation was handled? How about He should of been fired after the investigation. Goodbye to a bad cop!
@JHawks How is he a bad cop as both sides say the sex last March was consensual.
Your a woman lipper.....
ROFL, must have been really desperate for sex. LOL. This is too funny. Is this the best he can do? Oh well, he has pathetic judgement, better he is off the force.
Poor guy. Â He should have known as well as anybody that women like that are trouble.
State Correctional Officers face a five year felony conviction if they have sex with a prisoner. It would seem thst te WSP would fall under that Statute as she would be concidered a prisoner even when released as she was still in the Courts process dealing with the DUI.
The WSP officer would or could be charged with bribery and tampering with a witness and she vice versa. Needless to say a State prosecution is warranted for both the WSP Trooper and the DUI Women. They both committed felonies. Also a sentence should be at the highend of the sentencing guidelines as he breeched a public trust.
I would not like any of my grandkids getting pulled over by a Romeo WSP Trooper. To Prison he goes
Having sex with a prisoner in custody is a huge difference than having sex with someone you arrested who has been released and is free on bail or their own recognizance. At the worst, you are right it is witness tampering and cause for a mistrial, and its a conflict of interest, but unethical.
"Dream" job.??? more like fantasy....
So what? This late Officer Lamb WAS a witness for the State! He compromised the case having sex with the suspect who may now be considered a victim. Probably a waste of some 3-6k of tax payers money after arrest fees, prosecution fees, court time @ about $1,600 an hour and a public defender. How about all of his prior DUI arrests? Sex with other suspects? I bet alot of his cases will be thrown out of court. Don't worry, it doesn't involve anyone else. Â
@Barney Rubbel that Barney Rubbel... what an actor!
Now lets remember to honor him with some great reward and medal...cuz ya know EVERYBODY'S a hero these days.
@Dan NÂ You come off as a little man. So you're not man enough or have enough gumption to do such a job, and you get annoyed that it isn't you that gets accolades for doing a job that probably has no honor or meaning to it whatsoever, or you just didn't have the smarts to apply for any job that requires the use of nerves....coward.
@Dan NÂ Dan... well at least the ones who get shot and killed in the line of duty for the citizens of this state are. They certainly deserve more than sarcasm from individuals like you.Â
To SERVE & Protect #yeahright â@duisamurai: WSP trooper resigns after having sex with DUI driver http://t.co/bMUSBN3KD0â
good thing he's off the WSP payroll
what a looser
@BellevueRes "looser"? A real LOSER is one that can't even spell a fiver letter word correctly!Â
"Rules? Hey, I'm a Trooper: Rules are for other people!"
Look: bribery is "consensual" also: consensual does not make it right! There is a clear conflict of interest here - a violation of ethics - and the trooper crossed the line. If he was so willing to cross this line, what other lines might he be willing to cross in the future? Way too dangerous to wait around and find out...
"You're... outta there!"
@JLS1950Â Wheres the Bribery? Violation of ethics? Maybe. Violation of Department Policy? Maybe...crime? NO. Predicting the future and the mans integrity based on this? WOW! You should be a profiler.
@The Man @JLS1950 This is basically akin to the high school teacher who has sex with a (now "former") student the day after her graduation: there is at least an appearance that there may have been some coercion or exchange of "favor" involved. Recall that the DUI case appears to have been still open and un-adjudicated, and the trooper was the primary witness against the defendant woman. How do you feel about the arresting officer in a criminal case sleeping with the defendant? You perceive no opportunity for coercion or even just conflict of interest? Let me put this into language you can best understand: "If you sleep with me, I might just have some difficulty remembering whether I actually administered a field sobriety test or read you your legal rights properly... you know?"Â
I call that so close to rape that it might just actually cross the line completely. If this sort of behavior was his "dream"... then he needs to find another line of work immediately!
Not consensual if the person of authority offered her a certain outcome if she returned favors upon release from jail. Â totally unprofessional. Â And why can't this guy find dates he hasn't arrested, or HIRE a hooker?.... oh right, prostitution is ILLEGAL!. Â BTW, aren't patrols screened for antisocial personality disorder?
Oh please officer I will do anything - anything - just don't arrest me, fool. Good thing he is gone.
Why was it his "dream job"? And if it really was, maybe he should have thought about what he was doing, and how it would look to others. Policeman are supposed to be responsible for what they do; right? Like an average adult?
The reason the WSP is the most professional, is that they really do "police" themselves.
This guy didn't deserve to wear a badge... They probably told him... "You can quit, or we will fire you."
@Gator i laughed too when i read it was his dream job. why aren't our schools showing our young people it's ok to shoot for the stars?
Just another job benefit?
KOMO,
If you're not going to tell us the entire story you could at least include links to the news agencies that will.
"Trooper Lamb was the center of four internal investigations before this latest case. In fact, this is the second one for misconduct involving a woman "

@Fez Andrid Well, that sheds a lot more light on the story. Looks like this trooper was using his job to meet girls.
Show us a picture of the girl and I will tell you if he was right or wrong. If no picture is available please provide city and I will use my judgement. If it was Bellevue I dont think he probably did anything wrong. If it is Spanaway he is a sick sick man and needs counseling Yes I just geographically Judged this women I dont know. I bet you I am right!!
@futhi151 LOL
I always thought president Clinton could have done better selecting his side action.
Thanks for giving me a DWI and thousands of dollars in fines and lawyer fees, lets have sex. STUPID!!!
Hmmm. This article is poorly written. Judging by the title "WSP trooper resigns after having sex with DUI driver"- I would have assumed he had pulled her over found her to be intoxicated and had sex with her right there... Not that she had been arrested, booked into jail, released and THEN the two were CONSENSUALLY  having sex at her residence. :/ Who cares who this guy is 'bumping uglies' with. He was in uniform? I wonder did he keep his hat on? Socks? I could see if the police officer was on duty that his actions would be inappropriate but the fact is, he wasn't. Sex is a private issue. PERIOD. I wonder how it even came to be in the news. Seriously, don't they have bigger fish to fry? I would have much rather seen an update about Lindsey Baum or the other thousands of missing people/ children in our state , human trafficking or ANYTHING ELSE. This is total BS. As far as saying this man shouldn't be able to wear the badge is just ridiculous... this entire thing is. "OMG this man had S-E-X, he is no longer a valuable citizen or police officer" That's what I hear all the over grown toddlers saying. @kadam12 RAPE? really? Wow, just for getting some consensual nookie? I wonder how many people are over crowding our prisons that are funded by our tax dollars because of a little CONSENSUAL RAPE? Come on now. This man is human and he had an erection that was taken care of, end of story.
I dislike this greatly. The trooper was off work! He did his job and then went to his personal life. Why should his reputation and job suffer? DUMB.
Where do most of us find our spouses? AT WORK! A trooper makes contact with a citizen finds them attractive and after the business is over gets together with them, hooks up! So what, he was not on duty, his personal contact doesn't affect his job or the case. I know several troopers that are dating or married people they pulled over or cited them at a accident scene. So what! What does his job evaluations say? If he's a good cop? If he is let's keep him there are too few out there!
I see a new Trooper reality show happening. lol  He still did his job & arrested her ... so I give him credit for that much.
Little head thinking for big head = TROUBLE.

@kadam12 did you miss the part where both parties confirmed the sex was consensual?
Sorry Trooper.
You would have to be Bill Clinton to get away with!
It sounds like a Third country deal ! Wow.....!
Well a wonderful relationship may come from this.
I here SPD are looking for some good men.
@Birdseyeview "good men"Â Is that what the woman said about him?
Seems lil Travis got big Travis in a whole lotta trouble...
@Windowseat that's funny!... lil travis lol
No comment.Â
"violated misconduct rules"
Who knew the WSP has rules for misconduct? Â Maybe being off-duty fell outside of the misconduct rules. Â
Kudos, AP, for your literacy-handicapped hiring program. Â
Yeah, it's always consensual sex when the victim is drunk.
@Zoso She was probably sober by the time he showed up at her house after she was released from jail.
@jcman Well it sure would be nice to have that info had the AP decided to post that in the original draft. Between this and another story on here today, the AP has been pretty classy with their stories today.
