WSU launches its own beef brand, Angus, Wagyu cuts
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Washington State University is known for its Cougar cheese and Ferdinand's ice cream. Now, it's adding beef to the menu.
The university is selling its own beef brand, WSU Premium Beef, which is harvested from local cattle that were raised by staff and animal science students.
The Angus choice beef runs roughly $5 a pound. Tom Cummings of WSU's cattle operations says that price is comparable to what you'd pay in a high-end restaurant. The Wagyu (WAG-yoo) beef runs about $9 a pound. Wagyu beef originated in Japan and is known for being extremely tender.
WSU Premium Beef is available to the public in whole, half and quarter sizes and in boxed cuts.

9 bucks a lb seems fair to me. 8 oz ribeye of Wagyu for $4.50? Add all the trimmings and yer in fer under ten buck for an awsome meal. Bring it on!
Now... Where to get it? I ain't driving to Pullman.
What the hell are people going to do with a whole beef carcass...or even a quarter?Â

Good publicity, but this is obviously aimed towards butcher shops, restaurants, and food distributors, not the general public.Â
@lakeview No imagination. My family used to buy a whole cow every year. The price per pound was much less than getting it from the store and we weren't subject to price fluctuations. We didn't have a big freezer, so we rented a meat locker at the butcher's, and it was still cheaper.
@lakeview I happen to have a half cow in my freezer and I consider myself general public.  Can't beat $3/pound for grass fed all natural beef whenever I feel like it.
...any Dawg meat left over from the Apple Cup?
$9.00 a pound. No thanks.
WAZZU WAGYU !  Love it !  Go Cougs !
