WSU president proposes tuition plan
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Washington State University President Elson Floyd wants to hold down tuition increases for students next year.
Floyd released a proposal to the WSU Board of Regents on Friday involving undergraduate tuition.
Under his plan, any tuition increase at WSU next fall would be limited by the rate of increase in the Consumer Price Index. But that's only if the Legislature maintains current budget levels.
His proposal will now be sent to the WSU Tuition Policy Committee for review.

Some universities, including the one my child is at, offer a "tuition promise", whereby the rate of fulltime (12-18 credits) charged your first quarter will remain THE SAME for FOUR ACADEMIC YEARS. If you drop out then re enroll, the you have to pay the current rate. If you take longer than 4 academic years to complete your degree, you will have to pay the current rate when you start that "5th year".
Â
That in and of itself is saving us a bundle. By the way, my child goes out of state, which, with the WUE plan (www.wiche.edu) is saving us even more. Combined with academic and athletic scholarships, it is a few thousand $$ cheaper than attending one of the in-state schools that keep raising tuitions every year.
Â
Funny how tuition keeps rising, programs cut, but university administrators don't dare offer to take a personal pay cut.  Worst "offenders" with astronomical, ridiculous salaries are the prime-time sports coaches.  Seriously.Â
At public universities, no one should be getting paid more than $60,000 a year. That would help tuition.
Floyd you and your kind of folk that abuse the university is what the problem is..... You honestly believe the amount you're paid to run the university is warranted and doesn't take away from the kids.... please. I would personally like to say much more mean things to you.... but.... I will refrain.
@Funky-Munky Michael Young, University of Washington President makes $802,000, and is in the top 10 highest paid university presidents.  Elson Floyd is making $625,000.  Â
I think the responsibility of running a university is more important than the responsibility of running a football program, but look at the pay they get:

Stephen AÂ Sarkisian
Head Football Coach, University of Washington
$2,529,168
Lorenzo Romar
Head Basketball Coach, University of Washington
$1,217,051

@KRM66 Take a look at how much money our president of the United States makes and compare positions... All of it's deplorable at the Administration end of colleges and universities....
I would be more impressed if hey looked back in time and adjusted the current tuition rate by the tuition from 20 years ago then added in inflation to the present.  Great plan but when tuition has increase by 200-300% then trying to cap it by inflation seems like a joke.  I have to many friends that where told you had to get a college education so the borrowed what the could and now have a college education and large debt no job and no money to live on.
Â
Our education system is broken.  They require two semesters of a foreign language I would love to know how many college educated people use that, have made any money on it or even remember the basics. But there is nothing in technology or something to educate on the future required.  We need inventors, engineers, scientist not someone that can only marginally order their dinner at a foreign restaurant.
