WSU student survives 11-story fall from dorm

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - A Washington State University student has survived a fall from the 11th story of a dormitory building.
The school says the 22-year-old male student fell from Orton Hall on Wednesday night.
University spokesman Darin Watkins says the student suffered extensive injuries and was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
The student's fall was broken by trees next to the building and he landed in the grass. When emergency crews arrived, the student was conscious and talking.
WSU Police say alcohol was not a factor in the fall and no foul play is suspected.

This happens every year. Isn't there anything they can do to make those balconies safe?
@Willow Isn't there anything they can do to make the students smarter? You know, a little common sense?Â
Now that is what I call stoned. Glad he survived.Â
This is why the trees should not be cut down.
College ..that time in life when many are supposedly peaking intellectually yet paradoxically pushing the limits of ones ignorance...Â
Â
Glad this student is going to be ok....
@Truth Percolates I certainly did many stupid things when I was a young college kid.  Many of us are lucky to survive to 30.
@Smartypants  @Truth Percolates That is so true! I didn't hit college until I was older, but I was in the army at that age, and reasonably intelligent. We played as hard as we worked, and like @Smartypants mentioned, I was lucky to make it to 30. Extremely lucky in more than one case.
wait a second...a student from WSU falls 11 storied from his dorm and there is no alcohol involved....what the heck is going on?
Â
@Dawgfan67 I would almost rather say I was drunk than admitting I was just that clumsy!
So he wasn't drunk or pushed. What does that leave...accident?
@Elvis Possible suicide attempt.  But I have to say, you'd have to be pretty dumb to accidentally fall out of a dorm window. Â
Damn, this kid is something else.
This guy better be glad he's still alive. He should also realize Superman is a made-up character.
Can't wait to hear his excuse. If it wasn't booze I would suggest drug testing.

 @Wickedwitch Splat!  :)
I'd think from now on they should build dorms and college apartments without external entrances above floor one. It seems that this happens a lot.
That is not how I learned to test the laws of physics. God Speed on your recovery!
@Magic 8 Ball LOL!! In order to get credit in physics class they would have had to drop two students of different size and weight out the window.
@Petwlkr  @Magic 8 Ball fun observation... physics frightened me intellectually... I avoided it...
I have been hearing about similar incidents... most were drug induced/alcohol.... What in the heck are they teaching kids in these institutions... These kids should be much sharper than this.. I am very glad he's alright though... (jeepers)
@Funky-Munky Most have also happened at WSU-Â it is known as a party school more than anything else.
What's with all these college kids falling out of windows lately.
I never went to college but I'm smart enough not to fall out of a window.
I bet he WISHES alcohol was involved. Ouch!
