WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) - The Inland Octopus toy store in Walla Walla ran up a $90,000 fine in an unsuccessful two-and-a-half-year fight to save a purple octopus mural that the city called a violation of the sign code.

The case went through the courts and owner Bob Catsiff lost in February when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear it.

The city painted over the mural on March 28.

KVEW reports Catsiff agreed to end the dispute Friday and the city dropped the fine to $10,000.

He has three years to pay it off.
