WASCO, Ore. - The 33-year-old driver of a Ferrari died when his sports car collided with a mid-size SUV on Highway 97 on Thursday morning.

The driver of the 1994 Ferrari 348 was southbound on Highway 97 near Mud Hollow Road as the driver of a northbound 2011 Ford Edge turned left off the highway onto the road around 9 a.m.

The two vehicles collided. Witnesses told investigators the Ferrari's speed may have been a factor in the accident.

After impact, the Ferrari crashed 20 feet off the highway. Firefighters pulled the driver from the wreckage. He was taken by air ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased over two hours later.

Oregon State Police only identified the driver as a 33-year-old Washington man. His identity and city of residence were expected to be released later Thursday night.

The driver of the Ford, 90-year-old Peter J. Macnab of Wasco, was taken by Sherman County Rural ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles with minor injuries.
