Washington State University student dies in dorm
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - A Washington State University student died despite the effort of other students in his dorm to revive him.
WSU Police Chief Steve Hanson told KREM officers responding to a 911 call found 18-year-old Kenneth Hummel unconscious just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Stephenson Hall. Students were performing CPR.
He was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital where he died.
An autopsy should determine the cause of death. Police do not suspect a crime.

Too, too young. Heartbreak for his parents.
Too much alcohol (or any drug) kills. Crazy how people do this to themselves. Put the alcohol down, a book up, and grow up!! If you're 18 or older, you're now an ADULT!Â
@HallandOates Pretty sure no 18 year old has the mental capacity to be an "adult." Most 18 year olds are pretty damned stupid. So, get off your high horse. A person just died.Â
@Jenn W  @HallandOates Regardless of how a person may be mentally, in the eyes of the law, when you are 18, you're an adult and no longer considered a child/minor. Many 18 year olds have their act together.Â
@Jenn W And at what age would YOU suggest we require people to be responsible for their actions?
@My_Thoughts @Jenn W   is there an age in regards to being responsible, I would have to say out of college/age. however I've made many mistakes since and i am more than double this kids age....
@HallandOates Its too early for assumptions, although there is a possibility
@HallandOates What in this story could make you so sure it was drugs or alcohol? Pretty insensitive.
@Klondiko it was alcohol, I knew the family so sad.... he comes from a really neat family
@Klondiko it was alcohol, I knew the family so sad
Â
@Klondiko Unconscious being a symptom of alcohol intoxication, 2:30 am Saturday morning being the end of one of the two time periods during the week when most alcohol ingestion occurs , and the "Police do not suspect a crime." make fatal alcohol intoxication a pretty fair bet.
@My_Thoughts @Klondiko .  FYI  I knew him and it was alcohol and ehergy drinks, so sad a life cut short way too soon
@My_Thoughts  @Klondiko I think My_Thoughts is onto something. It's WSU for crying out loud. What else would you expect? That does not at all diminish the tragedy of him dieing. But Nicki, to say that we have all drank too much at some point does nothing to mitigate this. If you drank *that much* then you would be dead too. "too much" and as much as it takes to kill are very subjective and very clear (former and latter). One of my friends knew your cousin, he is heartbroken. We all should be. Maybe the next kid will learn from this and keep the bottle put away.
This is sad. A life too short.Â
