BELLEVUE, Wash. - A water main break closed a busy residential roadway in Bellevue Saturday morning.

No homes took on water when the water main broke and pushed water down the 3800 block of 140th Avenue Northeast.

The Bellevue Fire Department worked with the city to stop the gushing flow, and shut off water to approximately two dozen homes in the area.

"We want to make sure we shut it down safely, you want to make sure the houses don't siphon back into the system," Lt. Eric Keenan with Bellevue Fire Department said. "And water heaters overheat, so there's a process to it, and we're working with them to get it done."

The city is working to fix the broken pavement and water line so water can be restored to homes in the area.

The cause of the water main break remains unclear. 140th Avenue Northeast between NE 40th Street and NE 37th Street remain closed until a fix can be made.
