Wild Federal Way pursuit ends with arrest, bullet-riddled car

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A wild car chase up Interstate 5 and through south King County streets on Saturday apparently began as a road rage incident and ended with a bullet-riddled car, an arrest and a collision involving a state trooper's patrol car, officials said.
The drama began at about 2:15 p.m. when the Washington State Patrol received a 911 call from a 24-year-old man who said someone in another car was threatening him with a gun near the Tacoma Dome.
As troopers responded to the scene, they received more 911 calls from the victim who said the man in the other vehicle fired at his car as he drove away, and that he thought he had been shot in the back.
As troopers ramped up their response to the incident, the victim got behind the suspect in his car and began following him north on I-5.
The suspect and the victim then pulled off the freeway in North Tacoma and into the parking lot of Joe's Deli. The suspect again pointed his gun at the victim, but it's not clear whether more shots were fired.
The victim and the shooter then drove off together again, and Fife police become involved in the pursuit.
As the suspect reached south King County, troopers took over the pursuit as he drove all over through the streets of Federal Way, the State Patrol said.
Eventually, one of the troopers was able to stop the suspect's car in a controlled collision, known as a PIT maneuver, spinning the suspect's vehicle around in the opposite direction at at 349th and Weyerhaeuser Way.
Two King County sheriff's deputies who had joined the chase were able to box in the suspect with their patrol cars, and he was placed under arrest without further incident.
The suspect was later identified as 52-year-old Dale Carr of Auburn, and is currently being held on investigation of assault and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
Meanwhile, the victim and his car wound up in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant off 320th Street in Federal Way. Troopers confirmed that his car had bullet holes in it, but it turned out that the man himself was not hit by gunfire.
Trooper Cliff Pratt said that the Washington State Patrol is still investigating the incident.
"This person was shot at several times and his car was struck," says Trooper Cliff Pratt. "Luckily he was not shot in the person, so he is not injured. He was very startled, and I can understand why."
"We're still trying to figure out how this all started out and why," Pratt added. "It's our assumption that it's a road rage type of incident that got way out of hand."
Pratt said the State Patrol absolutely does not encourage motorists to follow someone in another car who is shooting at them. Instead, he recommended that people in that predicament get a license plate number or description, call 911 and stay as far away from the shooter as possible.

I'm glad they got him. I hope he goes to jail for a long time.
The "Action Jackson" victim was probably making threats to beat someone up and even went as far as to follow the shooter.
Â
Does this so-called victim have an arrest record for drug arrests and assaults? If he does then the shooter might have a self defense case but he should have stopped for the cops flashing lights.
I'm glad the shooting victim was not injured. Perhaps this incident will teach him and others a valuable lesson. A little common courtesy can go a long way.   Of course, on the other hand, zombies cannot comprehend a concept such as that.

@david davey ...just to clarify, that a little more courtesy when on the road can go along long way to prevent this type of rage. We never know who is in the car beside you and what they might be capable of. Let these zombies drive themselves to their graves and keep your fingers crossed that they don't take you with them. Drive smart, knowing that every single driver is out there to cause mayhem and you can avoid becoming a victim.
@david davey @TreeTopFlyer Who said he was Black?
Its not road rage, its typical Tacoma scum.
Hope that "road rage" was worth it as you're now going to the big house dumb dumb. The stupidity is amazing!Â
Something else crossed my mind when I say this on TV last night. The victim is black. I wondered if the gunman was white and if this had anything to do with the election.
Too much TV folks, put the guns away! What ever happened to just giving someone the bird and calling it a day?
@burmesepythondude
Wish I could do that, but for some reason, that particular hand gesture just doesn't come easily to me. In almost 40 years of driving, I've only tried to flip someone the bird on 3 occasions, and each time I ended up using the wrong finger. The other person looks at me in bewilderment, thinking "What? You think I'm Number One??"
Love road rage. All these mindless idiots in such a big hurry to go nowhere just shooting and pounding each other. Helps to open up more parking spots for me.
"the State Patrol absolutely does not encourage motorists to follow someone in another car who is shooting at them." oh really? thanks for the tip.Â
OK folks...I'm sure we can all agree that it's very dangerous out there. The reality is that there are lunatics driving in front of you, behind you and beside you all of the time, morning, noon and night. Some of these zombies carry guns illegally and if you happen to piss them off by either cutting them off with your vehicle or tailgating them, they will use their illegal guns to assult you. For Christ's sake, please give the zombies plenty of room and watch your manners on the road...otherwise you could be the next victim of an incident just like this one. Also, if you become a victim of road rage and the zombie is shooting at you, make sure you SHOOT BACK. :o)Â
 @TreeTopFlyerÂ
Â
Or better yet do not try to be Action Jackson after you smoked crack cocaine and follow someone who just shot up your car after you threatened to Reginald Denny or Kris Kime him to death.
Grrr. I hate this crap. especially in areas where I drive my family - said everyone that ever gave a damn. This kind of stuff happens everywhere, but there is surely a more dense set of firearm occurrences down here in the T.
Â
I can't even guess what the story is behind the story - it is too random, there is like, a dozen strong scenarios that we all know. So rather then speculate, I'll just say that I am glad the gunslinger is locked down, and no lives were lost.
Â
Â
 @Audio Cat You're right- too many scenarios to fathom- and they may have both just been passing through and actually live elsewhere - shooter is from Tacoma it says...
At least $150K worth of law enforcement equipment damaged by this knucklehead. Paid in full before release would be my preference (as a tax payer).
So much speculation as to what transpired, but does it really matter what caused the mayhem? Â The one guy was an idiot for pulling a gun and running from the police. Â The other was just as stupid chasing an armed suspect. Â Both were stupid, and thankfully no one lost their lives due to these two reckless individuals. Â Who cares what the circumstances are, we should just be thankful that no one got ran over in a crosswalk or anything by these idiots. Â Both deserve jail time for endangering everyone around them. Â 'nuff said.
Somebody cut you off or whatever really worth going to jail, if you're a bloody moron that is
What a freaking idiot for following the guy AFTER he was shot at.
 @Tattooed_AngelÂ
Â
I think the victim was on crack cocaine to  follow a shooter.
Wow, I wonder if following him was kind of a knee jerk reaction. He was probably in shock that the SOB actually shot at him and was so pissed he just went after him. Who knows......some times too much adrenalin isnt a good thing huh? He also could have been military and knew to keep his engine block between him and the gun............who knows? One thing is for sure, I'm not so certain they would have got the guy if the man didnt go after him. Still not sure it was the right thing.........but it sounds like a dangerous individual was taken off the streets and the police got him squared away.Â
 @Susabelle Either a knee jerk reaction, or the victim was just as guilty of road rage as the shooter; he may have even started the whole thing. He sounds pretty nuts to me, I mean, who chases after a guy who's shooting at you?Â
 @Asa  @Susabelle  I mean, who chases after a guy who's shooting at you?Â
Â
Someone who want the guy shooting at him caught maybe?
Â
Discharging a gun from inside a moving vehicle, automatic revocation of your right to bear arms, fine up to 10,000 dollars, and automatic five years in the gray bar motel. That should be a law in RCW codes of Washington. Anything else happens as a result of breaking this law is just additional charges and prison time.
Stay classy Tacoma!
Why are there so many armed maniacs running around western Washington? We need a "one strike and you're out" lifetime incarceration law for ANYONE convicted of any crime involving a firearm. If you can't be responsible around guns, you can't be trusted to live in America, simple as that.
 @Whobeke
Well, if not "lifetime" incarceration, at LEAST 25 years minimum...
Â
On a chain-gang.
 @TheTruncheon  @Whobeke That should teach them responsibly....... lets just lock them away in a place where they are only going to get harder, throw away the key and, 25 years later let them out even harder. That does not seem to be working now.
 @Just my say  @TheTruncheon  @Whobeke And coddling them and making excuses for their environment has OH worked so much better hasn't it?
The "victim" was probably just as responsible for what happened as the guy who was arrested. Not an excuse for pulling a gun, but I'm betting the victim was just as much of an A hole.
maybe the victim is an ex-LEO who could not help himself but to pursue
 @Komo DragonÂ
Â
Or a police academy reject with a drug problem.
As for the victim, is he a tough guy or a stupid guy? I think it's the latter. But I do admit he's also a lucky guy.
Anyway, thanks to the victim, the P0S is behind the bar right now.   Good job.Â
A victims car gets shot and he still follows the suspect? That is so not being a hero in my eyes. What in the world were you thinking?
 @Just my say He may have saved the next guy. Sometimes brave and stupid are the same thing, it is whether or not sheer luck is present that can often determine success from failure.Â
"...deputies who had joined the chase were able to box in the suspect, and he was placed under arrest. He was identified as a 42-year-old Tacoma man."
Â
Awesome capture of an obviously dangerous individual...!
Â
Now... where's the MUGSHOT and what's his NAME?
Did the victim have a gun? If he didn't, then WHAT THE HECK is he doing chasing after the shooter? Sounds to me like he was on some kind of suicide mission. The whole escapade sounds a little too bizarre.
 @Koreanman012 Adrenaline can make a person do anything. Im sure after the victim calmed down, he realized that he put himself into more danger by following since the suspect most likely fired the gun to scare the victim off of chasing him.
@Koreanman012 I agree, this sounds like narcotics may have been involved or could have been a previous drug deal that went bad. Â
 @grayfox  @Koreanman012 Good guess, but it could have just been road rage too - I've seen a few random acts in moving vehicles.
@grayfox Possibly. Crazy what drugs (or lack thereof)Â can make people do.
 @Koreanman012 I think it may have been a tactical move.  If you're able to get behind someone, they can't chase you. If that makes sense. Â
@DT That may be true. I'm guessing he risked his life to make sure this guy didn't get away. It's still a dangerous scenario because the suspect could've just stopped his car, then opened fire. But, I do understand what you are saying :)
KING reports bullets hit victims car but no one was hurt.
Good job officers.... Now take out the trash and dump it in prison! Glad you got to go home to your families.
Possible unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of said fire arm, speeding, felony eluding, reckless driving, attempted e assault if not murder, (degree TBD), being a #!*#!*#! idiot......
Hope he enjoys prison.
More to the story perhaps? Maybe the victim had a gun and decided to follow but never brought it out of the glove box. Still, great way to become a dead victim if you follow a car that just fired at you. Defintely not the brightest color in the rainbow.
You gotta be kidding me. Â Fed Way is turning out more like Compton every day. Actually Compton isn't this bad anymore.Â
@knickal  Actually the crime rate in Federal Way is not that bad compared to other cities in Puget Sound Area. Besides, the P0S was from Tacoma!
 @knickal I think people would be shocked at how low the crime is in many of the LA areas.  Some parts of LA have 1/4 the crime stats of Seattle and Tacoma.  I read these stories and think.. this is 2pm in the AFTERNOON!!!  If the drunk drivers don't kill you, the shooters will, or the thugs that punch you in the head to steal your purse in broad daylight at the malls.  Can't wait to leave this place. The crime has skyrocketed in the past 9 years, whether they admit it or not.Â
 @DT  @knickalÂ
Â
Â
It is blacks, black women, Â half blacks and whites who act like them committing all the crime. Some man had his eye shot out in Federal Way and it was blamed on a Hispanic when it turned out to be a half black person who shot the man's eye out.
 @DT "They" don't want to admit anything of the sort because everyone is too busy "cELeBraTiNg."
 @knickal Actually, the whole thing started in Tacoma and somehow some of the filth and garbage spilled over into Federal Way
