Heavy rains, strong winds topple trees in North Sound

Spring is here.
Winter is demanding a recount.
A storm that might have gone down among the top ranked this winter -- especially with the low bar set by the quiet season -- instead goes in spring's trophy case as we deal with a strong dose of rain, wind, mountain snow.
While the rain was been impressive -- anywhere from 0.75-1.50" across Western Washington, it's the wind that's been the most noticeable.
Gusts reached 35-45 mph across much of the region, with West Seattle's Alki Beach reaching 54 mph and Everett's Paine Field reporting a gust of 51 mph.
The wind has knocked down a few trees in the Lake Stevens and Snohomish area, including one tree that took out power lines as it toppled in the 14700 block of 75th Street NE in Lake Stevens.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for much of Western Washington with the exception of the Whidbey Island/Admiralty Inlet area where a stronger High Wind Warning is in effect through 11 p.m.
Wind gusts will continue to gust at times between 35-45 mph with some isolated gusts to 50 mph for Puget Sound region, coast and southwestern Washington and gust as high as 60 mph in that Whidbey Island area.
Mike McLaughlin went out and captured the windy day on video:

Winds will continue to gust through the evening hours then taper off overnight.
But the winds and rain weren't the only effect of the storm. Thunderstorms were possible Wednesday night, and then with colder air moving in for Thursday, some areas in the lowlands might see a little snow.
Peak winds from the storm as of 5 p.m.:

I dont know who Mike McLaughlin is but his video was beautiful!  If he isnt a professional photographer, he needs to look into it!  Wonderful video....was actually relaxing!
I love thundersnow!  But sorry to you folks that have to work outside...
Been here since 1989. Still hate the windstorms. But its a part of the Northwest so this is to be as expected. I just wish it were over already! Bring on spring!
It has been a crazy day in the Cascade foothills! Â Rain, blowing rain, sunshine, rain with sunshine as the backdrop, a bit of hail, wash, rinse, repeat.......all day!
@Doxie Is it blowing hard down there? Power outages?
@Silvia @Doxie Not at the moment!  Wait, yes it is!  Oh no, now it's not.  It changes minute by minute.  We got pelted by  hail while getting the mail and my California dog refused to move so I had to carry her while dashing back to the house.  Crazy - but I love it all!
@Doxie @Silvia We also don't want to deal with the mortgage down there...the realtors have told us that the market is hot right now..we'll see. But when it sells - hopefully at full price - you'll hear me shrieking!!
@Silvia @Doxie Sure do remember that - but I can see why it would be a relief not to keep all that up anymore.  It's a lot.  I found the house here, it was bank owned and very dated and still went for $470K.
@Doxie @Silvia Thanks. You're very encouraging. We're a bit tired of going down there to maintain the place, and of course we'd like it out of our hair for a lot of reasons. But - "all I have needed He has provided." Remember that hymn?
@Silvia @Doxie I found it and what a property!  Anyone would be lucky to have it.  If it's any comfort, a house up in here (possibly bank owned) sold very quickly and I hope yours does too.
@Doxie @Silvia It's next to the business on the "main drag". It's in the multiple listing service...if you know of anyone wanting to buy? We don't have a for sale sign in front - security.
@Silvia @Doxie I'm just teasing, I only have a very vague idea of where the house is.  Hopefully it sells very quickly; good luck!
@Doxie @Silvia That's fine. Peek all you want. Although if you do so, you might let our neighbor (at the business) know who you are so she doesn't come after you with a gun. Looking out for looters, you know. We come down every week to do yard work, but we won't be down again for a few days.
@Silvia @Doxie Oh, I'm going to peek in the windows now!  Just kidding, Silvia!
@Doxie @Silvia We have moved, yes. But we are living in a rental in GF, hoping to be in our new house this fall. Our MV house is for sale now - praying that it sells quickly.
@Silvia @Doxie Oh wow, you moved already!  Congratulations, hope you're enjoying your new place!  I thought you were asking from  just up the road and wondered why you were asking instead of looking outside, haha!
@Silvia @Doxie Yep, raining sideways right now. But I see sun across the lake.
@Doxie @Silvia Yeah, it's pretty unstable up here in GF also. By the time it's stopped so I can take the garbage out, the storm is back again. Oh well - this is the Northwest!
I enjoy falling asleep to wind and rain, but always hoping to wake up in the morning with the power still on, which it was. Â Love ya, Mother Nature. Â
@Opus8no5 Exactly! I woke up to power NOT on today though and very windy. Love the wind; hope the trees stay put. The one in the story above is not too far from us. Power out at my son's high school today too.
@Thunder Yeah - there were a couple of trees down on 92 from Lake Stevens - road was blocked for a while. I'm new to this area, so I was fortunate that I was able to find a quick detour without getting lost.
@Silvia @Thunder We weren't affected as it's a smidge north east of us, but I hear ya!
Getting wild and wooly here in Graham. Â I just pulled all of my flags and/or wind chime stuff in and took the hummingbird feeders down.

what the heck you are you saying?!
@bartle_doo It's spam. Stupid spammers. Flag it.
Well she didn't get the memo for the last couple years. No surprised we got a third. Hopefully she'll make a better effort for this year.
The rain stopped for Seattle about an hour ago. Very windy now and mostly sunny. I wonder if the storm is blowing through a little quicker than expected.
"...Winter's over, but Mother Nature didn't get the memo..."
Does she ever?
I'm loving it, I've not had to mow the grass since the last week of October! Â :) Â Stay cold, stay wet! Â
@PlumBUSTED! And most importantly, stay thirsty my friends...
Seems pretty typical weather to me. I actually enjoy the change of pace with the wind and rain, better than having overcast drizzle. We'll get plenty of sun in its due time!
I love Seattle and it has always been my home.  I moved to Florida last year to get out of this kind of weather, and every time I miss my friends, and family and think  I might want to move back, I read something like THIS article, and it stops me in my tracks.........
@Slingerss No. YOu really don't want to move back. Try to remember months on end of gray, dark, weather... where you have to have the lights on in the house all day.  Visits with family and friends are nice.. but I'd never give up sunshine for the gloom.Â
@Slingerss yea because florida never gets storms or anything.... just wait until the summer when we'll be 75 and sunny and you'll have hurricanes, thunderstorms, and 100% humidity
@bestcoast88 @Slingerss I always crack up at the Seattle-logic on weather. The weather sucks 9 months out of the year. Then when the precious few months that are not wet and gray hit, people here say "oh, at least we're not in (fill in the blank here.) where it's 99 degrees!!"  Well, I have to break it to the locals. There are actually places in America, where you have neither 9 months of drizzle, nor 99 degrees, nor hurricanes.  Really.  It's like getting hit in the head with a hammer and saying,  "well at least I didn't get shot!"Â
@Slingerss You should try Kansas sometime. . . Left there nine years ago and haven't looked back!!
I guess Punxsutawney Phil got it wrong again. One news article I read says he's right only about 36% of the time. That's worse than flipping a coin.
March.. in like a lion, out like a lion.
this weather is killing me...yesterday i rearranged my living room...twice..
