Woman arrested in fatal arson near Bremerton
EAST BREMERTON, Wash. -- A Bremerton woman was arrested Friday for investigation of arson and murder for her alleged role in a fire that took the life of her long time boyfriend, Bremerton police said.

Police say Darcy Edward Veeder, Jr. was found dead inside a home that had caught fire on the early morning hours of Feb. 23. Eight people were sleeping in the home in the 6600 block of Wellington ane NE when the fire broke out, including three minors, and the other seven escaped without injury.

A month-long investigation into the fire revealed the blaze was intentionally set in a downstairs family room, and there was evidence that led to the arrest of Veeder's girlfriend, Shelly Arndt, police said.

Arndt was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for investigation of first degree arson and second degree murder and was ordered held on $1 million bail.

She'll make her first court appearance on Monday afternoon.
