Woman found injured on road had jumped from moving car

GRANITE FALLS, Wash. -- Investigators say a woman found seriously injured on Mountain Loop Highway near Granite Falls Monday night had jumped from a moving car during an argument.
Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari L. Ireton said the 58-year-old woman had been arguing with the man driving the car before she jumped, and he accidentally drove over her before leaving the scene.
The woman was found about 7:45 p.m. by a passerby and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Ireton said a cell phone found at the scene helped investigators identify the woman and the 53-year-old man who was driving the car.
He was arrested Tuesday morning for investigation of hit and run.

Makes one wonder how police ever solved cases before cell phones...
Anoither unusual strory brought to you from Meth Falls Washington.
Not stopping to help her after she just jumped out of your car and after running over her? Doesn't matter "why" she jumped out, the fact the driver didn't stop tells me the man is a coward and POS. Now she might be a loopy one but what if he was threatening her or telling her to jump. It doesn't matter, she felt compelled to jump and he's scum for just leaving her there to die.
@alildifferent Yep....we don't know the circumstances on why she jumped. A while back some of you may remember a story about a lady jumping from a van on I-5....turned out she was suicidal. Many jumped to the conclusion that the man must have attacked her without any evidence of that. But the fact is that guy stopped and cooperated with police. This guy took off and didn't bother to stop. Gotta say it doesn't look good for this guy in this case.
people, let's give her some benefit of the doubt. he could have been threatening her life or actually assaulting her to death... so she probably thought jumping off would be a safer option, to escape. "he accidently drove over her..." i don't think so, but we'll see... now, that's the scenario i want to assume.  if not, it's possible she just wanted to commit suicide in as dramatic way as possible...
If you jump out of a moving car and it rolls over you, you're gonna have a bad day.
I'm having a really hard time believing the driver.
Â
If one jumps "from a moving car", wouldn't the car then be away from the person and basically UNABLE to run over the jumper?...oh, the car was going slower than that...huhm, if slower, then the injuries would be far less...???
@Commenter87643 I know, I was wondering if he actually pushed her out then came back to run her over.
@Commenter87643 - Exactly what I was thinking. Wonder how many times he had to back up and start over before he ran her down. Creepy stuff.
Â
Hope she recovers quickly.
@Commenter87643 Add to that leaving the scene and it does look suspicious.Â
Â
Either KOMO blew it with yet another sloppy reporting effort, or this sheriff's spokeswoman did, because as of this comment KOMO is quoting her as if she were relaying established facts and not specifying it's just his not-yet-investigated version of what happened.Â
Â
It's slop like this that lets defense attorneys get these POS off with no punishment and it's a large part of why many cops don't trust or respect the media.Â
I guess that is a fast way to end the argument.

"Accidently" ran over her. I think not. He should be charged with attempted murder. For her to feel that jumping out of a moving car was a better option than staying in the car tells me that something really bad or dangerous was happening.
Has anyone considered that she is an abuse victim and might have thought jumping out was safer than staying in the car? Â For all we know, he could have been holding a weapon to her or striking her. Â It does happen. Â The fact that he knew he hit her and kept going says a lot to me. Â I hope she'll be OK and never communicates with him again.
That was never a good plan, especially after they took the running boards off of cars. I just love these ill fated transportation stories;)
These two are both old enough to know better (you would think). Jumping from a moving vehicle is just stupid. I can believe the "accidentally" hitting her. But then to drive off leaving her laying in the roadway injured? Both are pretty dim bulbs
Â
Jumping out of a moving car is pretty dang stupid. Even though it was a foolish move, I'd still check to see that she was okay instead of running away and running over her in the process of doing so. Both of these guys sound like they need some mental attention, not just medical.
"accidently" drove over her before driving off to leave her to die? really?
Nice guy to run her over and leave." That ought to shut her up." he said on his way back to the bar!
Oh! You beat me to it!~
That was a poor choice!
Wow, this is really messed up.
You think that it could've been a possibility to have him pull the car over first? Geez.
He accidentally drove over her before leaving the scene? Hmmm...
Drunk. Â Alcoholism strikes again. Â
@MPS You want to rethink that comment? There doesnt seem to be any indication alcohol was involved in any of the reports I found online.

@Wickedwitch That's his version of what happened. He could have either pushed her out, or just hoped running her over would mangle her up enough that nobody could tell she hadn't come out of a moving car.Â
@Wickedwitch First I doubt she "allowed" herself to be run over and second you don't know how bad the argument was or what was going on. I'm sure bailing out of a moving car wasn't high on her bucket list but apparently it was what she needed to do.
 @Wickedwitch  ...to be run over.Â
@Wickedwitch What do you expect from Granite Falls?
Stupidity might have been a factor too. **facepalm**...jumping out of a moving vehicle....really?????Â
Alcohol or drugs might have been a factor!
