SILVERDALE, Wash. - A woman fleeing from deputies in a 2013 Lincoln ran a red light and slammed into another car at high speed early Saturday, killing a woman and severely injuring a man in the other car, said a spokesman with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the Lincoln, a 28-year-old Bremerton woman, was arrested after the crash and now is in custody at the Kitsap County jail on $500,000 bail.

The deadly drama started at about 1 a.m. Saturday when deputies and state troopers responded to a 911 call about a domestic violence incident inside a bar in the 3300 block of NW Byron Street in Old Town Silverdale.

A 2013 Lincoln MKS was spotted outside the bar, and deputies briefly detained a man who was standing outside the vehicle for questioning. But when deputies attempted to talk to the 28-year-old woman inside the vehicle, she refused to cooperate, slid from the passenger seat to the driver's seat and suddenly accelerated from the scene, nearly striking nearby pedestrians, officials said.

The Lincoln MKS fled west on Byron Street, then turned north onto Silverdale Way and headed north at extreme speed. The car ran a red light at Bucklin Hill Road, about a half-mile away, and slammed into the passenger side of a 2009 Nissan Versa that was driving through the intersection on a green light.

The force of the collision caused the Nissan to spin around several times and finally stop about 100 yards away, leaving a trail of debris behind it, deputies said.

The Lincoln then slammed into a steel light pole, shearing it off at the base, and finally came to rest against a traffic control island.

Medics and deputies arrived at the scene almost immediately. A passenger in the Nissan, later identified as Lori Lynn Johnson, 40, of Bremerton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, a 40-year-old Mason County man, was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma with severe injuries.

The 28-year-old Bremerton woman in the Lincoln was treated for minor injuries at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton then arrested and booked into Kitsap County jail for investigation of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of methamphetamine. She was also found to have an outstanding arrest warrant from California.

The roadway was blocked for several hours after the crash during the investigation.

The driver of the Lincoln will appear in Kitsap County Superior Court on Monday.
