Woman killed in crash with tree near Spanaway

SPANAWAY, Wash. -- A woman was killed Wednesday morning when she crashed her SUV into a tree near Spanaway.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car on impact, Troyer said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person in the car.
Police are still investigating the crash.

She was speeding around earlier thankfully she didnt take out a bus stop full of kids! we passed through there right after she crashed! the tree was large and healthy and she wasn't on the hood, she flew 100 yards!
Crazy..... Does anyone else see her laying right on the hood
I live right next to where this happened and I can tell you that tree was absolutely NOT rotten at all. I agree with Rachelle, she had to be going 90 plus to plow thru the guardrail and catch that much air. That tree is easily 50 feet away from the road and she hit it high up. I'm just glad there wasn't anyone on 152nd in her path at that time because that's a really busy intersection.Â
Speeding, I'll say. Probably on her phone too.
tree was half rotten had to be
She must have been really moving to break that tree off. Some deeper looking may reveal she was despondent and possible suicidal. I have seen this once before. I am sure those who knew her will miss her.Â
I go home that way everyday, 22nd is a downhill road for about a 1/4 mile to the stop sign. and those two trees she hit are about the best place to hit to avoid hitting the house thats there. Speed limit on 22nd is only 35.
I live right next to where this happened..I'm talking a few houses down and I got a good look at the accident. It makes no sense at all how she was going 70, she had to have been going at LEAST 90 to plow threw the rail, catch air and hit the tree as high up as she did. It also didn't help that it was pouring rain over here during that time. If she wasn't attempting suicide intentionally then this is very sad but I'm so thankful she didn't kill a child because my nieces bus stop is right there. People PLEASE drive carefully, we have speed limits for a reason and although I hate it too sometimes, this could have been anyone of us.
@Rachelle Laughlin ...Great post :o)  Judging by the pic, I say you're spot on. It's just another reminder to those of us who care about ourselves and others, that we could become victims. I'm looking forward to the findings in the investigation. Stay safe and drive defensively. Condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
That does it,,, Â we're going to have to ban trees now. If it weren't for the trees this would NOT have happened.
@Cougartwin You are taking the gun issue to a stupid level! I hope you don't own any!
@Cougartwin stupid
@Cougartwin How original.
guess we shouldn't expect much from the same alma mata as Ryan Leaf the biggest mess in the history of the nfl
@sunnysandiego @Cougartwin Hey now, you can't bunch us all together. ;) Some of us can hold an intelligent conversation with original material.
@lovestolearn @sunnysandiego @Cougartwin ok sorry for the reference to mr Leaf
guess we can say she couged it
Suicide by tree?
Kinda looks like a suicide no?Â
Thank god she didn't take anyone else with her.
This is sad either way you choose to perceive and guess what happened. Â Just sad
Oh my God. That is a hell of a hit. RIP....
That's one thick tree to snap like that. She was haulin' arse. RIP.
Holy moly it'll be interesting to find out how fast she was going....geeshka
Suicide by tree.
@Klondiko Or suicide by speed.
It's not the speed that will kill you, it's the sudden stop.
@TreeTopFlyer Or suicide by sudden stop. ;)
that picture is breathtaking
22nd ends at a T at 152nd. Â I wonder if she just didn't notice there wasn't a road anymore. Â Actually I kind of recognize that vehicle. Â I'll be interested to see who it is and if I'm right.
Car, tree, not wearing seat belt not good for anyone. RIP
You would have to be going in excess of highway speeds to cause that kind of damage. I bet she was under the influence...
I usually say "the tree always wins" in response to these kinds of stories but this is the first one I've seen were they both lost.
Suicide?
@NBA_Is_Useless Not likely. 22nd ends right there and she blew through the stop sign at the end of the road. Drunk or cell phone and driving way to fast. That kind of damage is not possible at the speed on that road.
@NBA_Is_Useless Or under the influence?
Thats what I was thinking. Either that or She fell asleep/ medical condition.
Very Sad
And...um. To the famiy. Sorry if the speculation is offensive.Â
But this doesn't sound like a Darwin...sounds more like intent or as BMOE1111 noted, a very unfortunate medical event.
Peace
Sad, but it sounds that way. Running at high speed, through a stop sign, no seatbelt, and into a tree??
This months Darwin Award goes to this lady.
I don't think a seat belt would have made much of a difference here. Still I wear them all the time.
In other words, speed kills. Â
Sad.....seat belts save lives. Even so, I don't support laws mandating people wear one. She chose to drive without one and she paid the price for it. Luckily she didn't hit anybody else as that can be a pretty busy intersection at the right time of day.
@dg54321 Sometimes society enacts laws to protect others from bad decisions by said deciders. I don't care if some idiot dies because she is too dense to understand the simple act of buckling up can save her own life, but I don't think a child necessarily needs to lose a parent because of Libertarian sensibilities. Likewise I don't want some numbskull seated behind me launching himself through me on the way through the windshield because, you know, he didn't HAVE to don his seatbelt.
Not to mention non-bucklers are more likely to not buckle their kids in, and I think we have a duty to protect kids even if their parents don't care so much for them.
