TACOMA, Wash. -- Police are looking for a man who raped a woman in a Tacoma park early Monday.

Lt. Jerry Lerum said the woman told police she was making a run to a convenience store a few blocks away from her home around 1:30 a.m.. When she noticed a man in a car following, she took a different way home hoping to lose him.

But he surprised as she was passing Ryan's Park. She says he forced her into the park at knifepoint and then sexually assaulted her.

She eventually was able to hit the man, causing him to drop the knife, and she ran away, Lerum said. She got a license plate and a vehicle description, which police aren't yet releasing. Officers say they have also recovered some evidence at the crime scene, but the attacker remains on the loose.

Neighbors say the assault is a sad reminder of why it's called Ryan's Park -- named after Ryan Hade who was sexually assaulted there in 1989. He died in a motorcycle crash in 2005.
