Woman who threw dog into traffic gets 7 months

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A woman who threw her boyfriend's dog into freeway traffic last December has been sentenced to seven months in jail - and five years without pets.
The Columbian newspaper reports that Shellie Hubbard of Portland, Ore., pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced Friday in Clark County Superior Court for first-degree animal cruelty, third-degree assault and possession of methamphetamine.
Judge Barbara Johnson noted that in addition to the dog's death, the 46-year-old's actions endangered drivers on Interstate 205.
The incident began last Dec. 22, when Hubbard and her boyfriend began arguing. She struck him with a broken coffee mug, slicing his hand, and he pulled the car over. Hubbard let the Catahoula leopard hound dog, named Peanut Butter, out of the car, then scooped it up and threw it into traffic.
The dog was struck and killed as it tried to walk back to the side of the road.

Be afraid Ms Hubbard.. Be very afraid
Nope, I say throw little miss animal abusing meth head onto the freeway. Afterall, its the only real punishment she may understand.  I hope she would feel the pain and fear that dog did just before the car killed him. Â
I suppose throwing her into the traffic would not be humane...I say that is a fair punishment. Â Sounds like someone you would NOT like to bring home to meet the family.
Â
Disgusting Judge, I know that you have guidelines that mandate your sentences, but I am sure you could have added some public service like cleaning trash and debris from the center lane of 205.....during rush hour
Don't let me see you walking on side of the road.... I will be more than happy to show you the same kindness you showed peanut butter.... Someone did that to my dog they wouldn't make it to court. Just sayin.....
Wow!! A whole 7months. That will teach her. I am so sick of how lightly crimes involving animals are treated in this country. This witch better hope she never crosses my path.
Leave it to a tweaker, truly the scum of the earth.
Â
At least the dog is in dog heaven now and not with those horrible people. I bet the dog didn't have a very good life with them. I agree with wmyar, throw her out into oncoming traffic.
Sometimes I like animals much more than I like humans. For obvious reasons.
To heck with clogging our jail system with her; throw her into traffic!
Barlion................Any one of my pups are a higher life form than you!
Kill a human and people go "meh" and move on. Kill an animal and people start calling for crucifixions. This story is tragic not only because an innocent animal was killed but because it shows how we humans care more of lesser life forms then we do our own.
Abusers do this. They isolate their spouse or SO, and will harm what that person loves out of jealousy and the desire to control and inflict pain on the person they want to manipulate. She's an abuser. Drugs are another of her problems, but this lady is this way without drugs too, I bet. She was intent on causing the man to hurt as much as she could, and chose the most effective means she could think of.
I had an abusive bf when I was very young. He would criticize me for spending even a minute giving my cat any affection. He was jealous of a five pound cat. He also told me I couldn't go to the grocery store because there were men there. He once dragged me into a closet and berated me for hours because I gave the host (and honoree) of a birthday party a kiss on the cheek while saying "Happy Birthday". If ever I wished to hang out with any of my friends, he would criticize them and me and try to tell me I could not or should not see them. I soon realized that the escalating behaviors I saw in him were going to lead to physical abuse in addition to all the attempts to control me. The epiphany for me was the moment I caught myself fantasizing about cracking him over the head with the cast iron skillet. I decided to end it, and he decided to stalk me. So, I moved, and he moved to the same apartment complex. After a month or two, he did leave me alone - only after I was dating someone else who was kind to me and probably made the ex bf think twice about bothering me.
@two loons people like this can not STAND to have anyone around them be happy! They are so miserable they HAVE to bring everyone around them as low as they are so that they can feel better. Then add a drug like meth on top of it and you have a recipe for someone who has absolutely no hope for recovering back to a normal human being. Actually, I think its a recipe for one of these "ZOMBIES" that have been popping up all over the place! Sad thing is, this meth head freak will probably live forever making everyone's life a nightmare around her!! I just am happy you got out while you could. I've seen the results of this kind of abuse and it was very disturbing. Be safe! : )
This makes me SICK! How high on meth does someone have to be to throw a innocent dog out in TRAFFIC! Drugs or no drugs there should be no reason to do this to an animal.
This is particularly heartbreaking as I just lost my beloved dog of 13 years this week. Seven months is not NEARLY ENOUGH. Dogs are intelligent creatures who feel just like the rest of us. What a heartless, horrible woman. Being on drugs is no excuse. This story brought tears to my eyes. I hope that Peanut Butter didn't suffer. In my opinion, this woman doesn't deserve to see the light of day ever again.Â
Makes me hug my little dog a little tighter.
Â
But, she will keep doing meth and being a drain of our valuable resources as they always do. We will be paying for her prison stay, her rehab if it ever happens and her food and shelter for as long as she lives and she wont have to work a day in her life. I have one just like her, wallowing away next door to me in a shanty of a house with trash and filth, and she comes out and babbles incoherently for a few hours with her barking dogs all night... and theres not a damn thing I can do!! Oh, and we are paying for people like her's massive medical bills as they usually have some form cancer or major health problems from all the drugs and alcohol they have been putting in her body all their lives, like this neighbor I have; gets a state appointed caretaker and rides to the free hospital visits every month! And a check for her drugs and beer and cigarettes every month! Because its party time every first of the month! Yes, WE are paying for THAT!!
We have a house like that next to us too. Why do WE have no rights but THEY do? Why can't WE be able to live in peace, but THEY can bring their cancer right to our property line? My husband works his butt off, but THEY get everything handed to them because they are *poor drug addicts*. I am so sick of it.....
This woman in the story should be put away for a long time. Maybe when she does it to a child that makes her mad............
@Beau's Mom Thank you!! I am so sorry, I know EXACTLY what you are going through!! God forbid she ever did this to a child! Poor dog was so trusting, he tried to come back! A child would probably do the same ting and thats what makes me so sick that people like her have tons of kids too! Ugh!
I couldn't loathe this woman more, throwing a defenseless dog into traffic like that. I say we do the exact same thing to her.
Wow! 7 months for killing a dog? Damn woman is lucky I'm not the judge. She'd be looking at more like 7 years, if she's lucky!
But Jon Corzine can steal 1.6 Billion from MF Global clients' personal accounts and not even get arrested 11 months later!
Â
Her and Corzine need to be put away along with our "Justice" Dept.

Let me say this much...if anyone is reading this story who would ever think about hurting a dog, cat or any animal by kicking, yelling or throwing it out of the window....
Â
You need to get help with your anger, or other issues.Â
@heyjoe Anger, heck, sociopathic issues. They're freaks if they can handle hurting animals. Their brains aren't right.
Is she even sorry for what she did? Did she ever even apologize for killing the dog or does she not see that what she did was wrong? I would have liked to know that part of the story too.
Â
I feel bad for the boyfriend because if that were my dog I'd wanna beat the eff out of whoever threw him in traffic. That is just heartbreaking.
Â
Â
@Tattooed_Angel I'm sad she didn't get prison. I doubt this woman is sorry.
What a POS. She should NEVER be allowed to own animals if that's how much she values their life. That is disgusting and despicable. I hope the death of this poor dog haunts her forever.Â
@Tattooed_Angel I doubt it haunts her at all.  Meth heads are so brain damaged, they are almost incoherent.  I deal with them a lot.  I wonder what happened with that case in California where a guy had his bumper tapped and went over to the other car, grabbed their dog out of the car and hurled it into traffic.  Last I saw, he was suing the dog owner! Â
I can't understand how anyone can hurt an animal - or anything for that matter.
@Doxie I'm not sure if that's the same case or not -there was a case years ago of road rage nd the guy threw a woman's dog into traffic - 10 year old Bichon. I think he got year in jail. They should get years not months. People ho do this will throw your or their child somehwere as well.
@Elaine2 Yes, that one!  It was national news.  At one point, he was suing the owner!  It's a lame sentence, but better than nothing.
Witch!
Just wait till this little meth head gets out of jail, and throw her worthless ass off an overpass. (Preferably in front of a semi) See how SHE likes it. There is no worse "human" filth than child molestors, rapists, and people who are cruel to defenseless animals. I hope some dog lover beats the crap out of this chick DAILY while she's in the joint.
I also feel sorry for the person who hit the dog. Like train crews when someone commits suicide or runs through a crossing arm, they are a victim of enormous magnitude as well.Â
@AuburnGuy very true - not to mention anbybody who might have inadvertantly witnessed this. I knw I would have been terribly upset to see something like this.
@Elaine2 If I had been a witness I would have had a very hard time not going vigilante on her.
No kidding...until you said that....I did not realize how many victims were involved....
I am surprised her bf kept her alive
I'm sorry. but she was found guilty of animal cruelty, assault, and meth, and she gets SEVER MONTHS??? What the hell is wrong with judges up here???? Â What a horrific POS that woman is. And her sentence is a joke. Shame on that judge.Â
what a joke of a sentence. I hope karma steps in where the justice sentence didn't and takes her out of existence, she doesn't deserve to be here.
Perhaps other countries such as Singapore have it right when dealing with criminals. Let the caning begin!!!!Â
@HallandOates Well, the Illinois Circuit Court changed the game now, secondhand hearsay ruling can be cited anywhere. Whether or not successful due to sovereignty there, it can be cited; anywhere.
7 *months* ??? This woman is a dirt bag and was possessing meth which is a felony:
Â
Rev. Code Wash. (ARCW) § 69.50.4013 (2011)
§ 69.50.4013. Possession of controlled substance -- Penalty
  (1) It is unlawful for any person to possess a controlled substance unless the substance was obtained directly from, or pursuant to, a valid prescription or order of a practitioner while acting in the course of his or her professional practice, or except as otherwise authorized by this chapter.
(2) Except as provided in RCW 69.50.4014, any person who violates this section is guilty of a class C felony punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.
HISTORY: 2003 c 53 § 334.
NOTES: INTENT -- EFFECTIVE DATE -- 2003 C 53: See notes following RCW 2.48.180.
Â
So... this dirtbag should be doing 5 years for a class C felony. She killed an animal and put peoples lives in danger and had drugs on her.. 7 months??? that's obscene.
Â
7 months in jail and 5 years without pets hardly seems sufficient. She should never be allowed near animals (or people for that matter) again, I say drop her in to freeway traffic and see how she fares (and by drop I mean from a helicopter to make it interesting).
@alaska_dreamin At least she would finally have an impact on society.Â
@MargeGunderson And cement, and hopefully a bumper or two.
@alaska_dreamin Ha, excellent point! I'll happily donate mine to the cause; it's already dinged in a couple of places anyway.Â
@alaska_dreamin 5 years w/o pets? How would that ever be enforced or monitored. crazy.Â
@alaska_dreamin I'd hit the 'like' 3 more times if it'd show!
Special place in hell for this piece of trash. No dog deserves such a horrible fate. Not a one of them.
freaking meth losers; what a nasty lot.Â
Â
poor dog caught in the middle of these morons.
Â
may she barking dogs haunt her dreams forevermore...Â
What kind of lowlife sack of dirt does something like that?
