Woman with gun shot, killed by Tacoma officer

TACOMA, Wash. - A 22-year-old woman was shot dead by a Tacoma police officer late Saturday after she charged at the officer with a pistol in her hand, officials said.

The incident unfolded Saturday at about 9:30 p.m. Police responded to a home in the 3500 block of Fawcett Avenue after receiving a 911 call about a suicidal woman who had fired two rounds inside the house.

Officers made contact with the woman and tried to negotiate with her. She then came at them with a semi-automatic pistol pointed at them. At least one officer opened fire and shot her.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not immediately released.

The officer who fired has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, as is standard in any officer-involved shooting.
