Worried widow: 'It's a miracle - an answer to a prayer'

CARSON, Wash. - A widow worried about losing her home after a no-show contractor left her in a lurch got some good news this week when a local company stepped up to help her out.
Ever since Sally Daggy's husband died from kidney cancer two years ago, her life has seemed to snowball out of control.
"It's been terrible," she told us. "My life has been upside down. I don't even recognize it anymore."
One huge problem she has been facing since her husband's death has been getting her roof replaced. She signed a contract more than a year and a half ago for the work but despite promises from the company, Northwest Redevelopment, workers never showed.
Since then, a tree fell on her home and damaged the roof even more. Daggy filed a claim with her insurance company, Safeco, but two days later she got a letter saying they were going to drop her.
"That was the last nail in the house coffin," Daggy said.
But this week, Daggy was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief when a local company, Lifetime Exteriors, decided to help her out after they saw her story on KATU-TV, which is KOMO's sister station in Portland, Ore.
"My heart just went out to the whole situation," said Jeremy Manella, the company's owner.
Manella has committed to replacing Daggy's roof - it's a $10,000 to $12,000 project - and his company is doing it for free.
"There are no words to tell you how much I appreciate this," Daggy told Manella when he showed up at her door to give her the good news.
"I just praise God," Daggy added. "It's a miracle - an answer to a prayer. It's wonderful there are people like them to help people like me."
Too bad she didn't do any real research into the first company before hiring them. They claim they are a BBB accredited business, but according to the BBB they are not.
every once in a while you see somebody like this step up w/o being asked. Really nice to see.
It's not a miracle. God did not answer your prayers.Â
@lakeview what even motivates you to make such a comment?
@lakeview Wow. You sure told *her*!
Lifetime Exteriors certainly needs to be applauded for stepping up in this case. However I noticed that a few details in this story are missing to help me understand Mrs. Daggy's plight.
It says she signed a contract with the previous company but was money exchanged? I am a contractor and I do not take any money until the day I show up at your house.
Safeco dropped her insurance, but did they pay the claim. It is not uncommon or illegal to pay the claim and then drop you.
Â
Safeco and Northwest Redevelopment you should be ashamed of yourselves. If you're not, well then allow me. SHAME ON YOU!
Alright, who is cutting onions?
Oh, just look at Jeremy's face up above, that made tears spring to my eyes instantly. Â Good things tend to happen to those who do selfless things like this and I hope it's true for the whole company, i.e., people hire them because they saw this story.

Washington State Insurance Commissioner should be investigating this... Sounds like a great Problem Solvers report.
What a wonderful company and human being. I wish this company many years of success and I wish for this woman many years of happiness.
It is great to see that there are still a few good people left in this world.
@Serendipity Believe it or not but the good people still outnumber the bad.
So instead of thanking the company and people that are providing several thousand dollars worth of free services, she thanks a deity in the sky? Got it. What ever happened to free will? I didn't think God was allowed to interfere in the lives of humans, thus invalidating their free will. After all, it's the same excuse I hear after a human commits any horrific crime, theists will say that  "god gives free will, that's how tragedies happen". If that deity was so great, he should have prevented the tree falling in the first place. I guess "He" works in mysterious ways.Â
@PuyallupCoug You know, you obviously have your own beliefs about these things and that's fine, but why don't you just try to have a little bit more respect for those who's beliefs don't agree with you. There was no reason why what she said given her apparent background that it was necessary to question her belief system or her remark.
@Jatok I don't respect an opinion that an invisible sky deity fixed her house. It is her right to thank god and hold that opinion and it's also my right to disagree with that opinion.
However, I do have all the respect in the world to that contractor who donated his company's time and money to help someone in their time of need. I think THAT is very respectable.Â
@PuyallupCoug I'm sure she thanked the contractor, but she does happen to believe in a higher power and since you obviously don't why don't you just let it be. What she said didn't affect you in any way.
@PuyallupCoug The article states that she expressed her gratitude to this man and his company. She also acknowledged God for answering her prayers and bringing this miracle to her (through Mr. Manella and his company). I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Manella is also a Christian, but he strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't object to her acknowledging God either way. The questions you asked are good ones - I used to wonder about stuff like that, too. I found a non-denominational class that helped me understand what Christians believe and allowed me to ask all those hard questions without anyone forcing anything on me. Check out http://alphausa.org/ for info. If nothing else, it will give you a better understanding of the beliefs of those around you. Peace!
@Willow  @PuyallupCoug Believing in God is not only for Christians.Â
@Northend  @Willow You're right. Now, which god to choose from?Â
@Willow I don't wonder about those questions personally. They were asked to spark thought in those who believe a deity will solve all their problems. Thank you though for the link.We need to be thankful to our friends, family and neighbors who come to us in our times of need, not an invisibly deity.Â
 @PuyallupCoug Your a killjoy....Â
@Grumpa  @PuyallupCoug And YOU (Grumpa) don't seem to know the difference between your and you're.
@Grumpa Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy for the woman who has obviously fallen on hard time. However, I get irked when a deity gets credit for the good deeds of a human.Â
That is such a wonderful story! My hat is off to Lifetime Exteriors and a big old "boo-hiss" to Safeco & NW Redevelopment.
@The WA Mama Especially to Safeco. I tried to get insurance through them after my divorce and they denied me because of a claim from 1996 and I had not even lived there for more than five years.
It's nice to have a good lead story for a change. Blessings on that company.
@Beau's Mom I agree, I had to take a few day's off from this site because it got so depressing. Now my 'new-years resolution' is everything in moderation and stick to as much positive stuff as possible.
