Yakima County man hit, killed by freight train
WAPATO, Wash. (AP) - A Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad spokesman says a 41-year-old Wapato man has been struck and killed by a freight train in that central Washington town south of Yakima.
The crew of the local freight train sounded their whistle and applied the emergency brakes Friday afternoon but could not avoid the man lying in the train's right of way.
The man's name was not released.
Spokesman Gus Melonas said the collision took place at a public crossing with automatic flashers and gates. He says it's the fourth fatality so far this year on BNSF rail lines in Washington.
Local police and BNSF officials were investigating.

Four train track fatalities already this year in Washington and it's only February? I feel for the poor train crews that have to deal with this. They must love working the "Washington Suicide Run."
Crud, I read it as a hit man was killed by a freight train. uugh, to early for comments I guess.
Natural selection...how do you get hit by a train? Not like they can sneak up on you!
@sometimesright Well I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this was suicide by train.
@Zoso @sometimesright Unless there was some medical problem, that would be my guess as well.
Guess we need to outlaw those killer trains.
@Alex Clayton Not funny anymore. It's beyond old now.
I know, don't you just hate it when facts get in the way of an agenda?
@ZosoLOL, Sorry I forgot to dumb it down for ya.
@Alex Clayton Dunno. Didn't see any in your post.
