3rd-grader takes loaded gun to Detroit-area school
INKSTER, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a third-grade student brought a loaded handgun to his Detroit-area school but was stopped before he walked through the doors.
School district spokeswoman Val Hughes says the principal at Daly Elementary School in Inkster was tipped by a phone call before school started on Friday morning.
She says the principal met the boy at the school's entrance. The boy and weapon were removed from school grounds around 9 a.m.
Hughes says no one was harmed and that other students weren't aware of what happened.
No details were released about how the boy got the gun or why he took it to school.
Inkster police told The Associated Press that they couldn't release any information about the incident.

Couldn't or wouldn't? Why the secrecy? What does it serve?
"was tipped by a phone call before school started on Friday morning."
Sounds like someone handed him the gun and talked him into taking it to school - and then called to let them know - all just to get him in trouble...
More proof that the average American is too stupid to secure his/her guns.Â
@lakeview While you may be, how do you then draw your conclusion over the population of the country when just a few are responsible? Â
Are ALL Muslims responsible for the 2001 attacks or just a few?  Do we hold the entire religion responsible for the few?
How about Canadians? Â Are ALL Canadians responsible for attacking, killing, and eating a seatmate on a bus or just the nut job that did it?
Under the counter poisonings in this country is on the rise. Why doesn't the media tackle the irresponsible parents that don't use child proof storage? Because the kids don't use GUNS to open the bottle of poison that's under the sink.
@komoispropaganda Kids also overdose on prescription meds they stole from their parents, neighbors, and friend's parents. . . . does that mean we should ban all medications?
The NRA may be proud as proud gets but the majority of the rest of Americans are not amused. This is one of several instances of this lately.Â
I do believe it happens a lot. Not with ill intentions, just a kid who wants to show off a gun to his peers. Most of these go unnoticed. The question here is, why was there a tipster, and why did he/she not stop it from the get go?
HUH, That's nice. It was a happy ending, good job for tipping off the school, whoever you are.Â
Oh good grief...this is national news how? Â
 @sometimesright One word.....GUN.
@Hachee_Bungwhy I would guess about 100 guns a day are found in schools nationwide, probably 1000s more are carried in there. Why is THIS gun news?
@MoonDragonWitch  @Darn it!  @sometimesright  @Hachee_Bungwhy I agree. I was actually grounded several times for not checking the safety of a BB gun handed to me. I also knew where the guns were kept, all my friends did. So what? More ignorance to our kids? Mess on that.
@Darn it!  @sometimesright  @Hachee_Bungwhy I knew right where the guns were kept in my house at that age, and I could easily get to them. HOWEVER, my parents also beat into me (not literally) to NEVER touch those guns unless one of them handed it to me and always treated it as if it were loaded (i.e. don't point it at anyone or anything).
@sometimesright  @Hachee_Bungwhy Possibly because it points out the need for safety training so irresponsible parents get a clue that they shouldn't leave their guns laying around so a third grader can grab it. Just dumb! I'm not against guns but this could have had a really bad ending.
