5 hurt in shootings at gun shows in Ohio, Ind., NC
MEDINA, Ohio (AP) - Accidental shootings at gun shows in North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio left five people injured Saturday.
At the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, a 12-gauge shotgun discharged as its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check at a security entrance, injuring three people, state Agriculture Department spokesman Brian Long said.
Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury.
The shotgun's owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson, brought the weapon to the show to find a private buyer, Long said. Sheriff Donnie Harrison said that it was too early to know whether Wilson might be charged but that it appeared to be an accident.
The North Carolina show, which is held at the state fairgrounds, is a quarterly event that usually draws thousands of people. The two-day show shut down early Saturday but will reopen Sunday.
In Indianapolis, police said a 54-year-old man was injured when he accidentally shot himself while leaving a gun show.
Emory L. Cozee was loading his .45 caliber semi-automatic when he shot himself in the hand as he was leaving the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show at the state fairgrounds, state police said. Loaded personal weapons aren't allowed inside the show.
Cozee, of Indianapolis, was hospitalized for treatment. Police say the shooting was accidental and no charges will be filed.
And in Ohio, a gun dealer in Medina was checking out a semi-automatic handgun he had bought Saturday when he accidentally pulled the trigger, injuring his friend, police said. The gun's magazine had been removed from the firearm, but one round remained in the chamber, police said.
Police Chief Pat Berarducci said it appears the bullet ricocheted off the floor and struck the friend in the arm and leg. The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital 30 miles north in Cleveland, Berarducci said. His condition wasn't immediately known.

There is NEVER an excuse for an accidental discharge other than the complete carelessness and neglegence of the firearm handler. These incidents happen all the time but few are reported to the media, but in the current awareness of the gun issue, we are going to hear more stories like this. If you can't be a responsible firearm owner, then just turn in your gun for a Amazon Gift Card, OK? **facepalm**
kind of fishy to me how 3 different gun shows in different states with all the hype going on something is going on we dont know about.
I wonder if its not some folks who want to disrupt things...go to a show, do something STUPID, attribute it to doofus gun owners....build a case (on false pretenses) to limit firearms ownership.
Â
See Tonkin gulf incident etc.
@Woodswalker yup, clearly its all tied into the whole sandy hook conspiracy hoax thing.Â
Â
Hmm. Â There were over twenty-eight thousand (28,000) auto accidents that day in America.
Â
5 vs 28,000.  Too bad the fear mongers do not list other daily accidents, but then that would be balanced news.
Â
Â
Â
Gun deaths are set to outpace traffic deaths by 2015. Guess which one we regulate more?Â

Â
Oh, and then there is the whole "your gun is more likely to hurt you or someone you know that be used to protect you" point. I wonder how many of these people have protected thier house from an evil criminal (i.e. boogeyman).

"Loaded personal weapons aren't allowed inside the show."
What? This is a GUN SHOW! Attended by responsible law abiding gun owners! Don't they trust their own customers?
A "gun free" gun show? Hmmm...

@Iconoclast I'm sorry, did I forget to use the sarcasm font...?
My bad, I assumed you would see it.
 @al_waÂ
/sarcasm
Â
@OrcasThunder  @Iconoclast Sarcasm doesn't translate in print at all. The world is in great need of a sarcasm font.
How the heck to do shoot yourself in the hand while loading your weapon? Can someone explain that one to me?
@Tattooed_Angel Other reports have stated that a deputy sheriff on duty was doing the unloading. Sounds like a real goat rope to me.
@Tattooed_Angel Maybe he saw that movie where the hero presses his finger into the barrel of the bad guy's gun, which renders it unable to fire...
@OrcasThunder ....Oh, it will still fire.
@schramalot  @OrcasThunder You mean the movies lie?
Another report stated that a deputy sheriff was unloading the shotgun when it went off.
Â
Chamber flags should be required at these shows. No chamber flag, no admittance.
Accidents happen. That's how most liberals came into existance.
@Gene Stephens I thought that was how most ultra conservatives came into being since they don't believe in birth control.
@Gene Stephens That's cute.  Stupid.  But cute.
@Gene Stephens That's a good one lol. You should put that on a bumper sticker.
@skullcrusher  @Gene Stephens He would need to learn proper spelling first!
@skullcrusher Are the majority of your thought porcesses reduced to bumper sticker slogans?Â
Â
@skullcrusher  @Gene Stephens "put that on a bumper sticker."
Indeed...cover up the Romney/Ryan sticker...
Glad no one was killed. All this time we have heard that guns don't hurt people, but people with guns do. Looks like this gun wanted to prove you all wrong and show you all that you don't need a person to go off and hurt someone.Â
How many accidents to day, any drunk drivers, any one die at the hands of a doctor, skiing, pick something you or a friend like to do any one get hurt. This is a free society, thousands of men died in the last 100 years to give you this right. Accidents do happen thats y you have the right for abortions.
In other News today.... There were thousands of owners , buyers and spectators at various gun shows around the globe where nothing bad happened - unfortunately, the local news only reports negative events...
We'll stop talking about it when gun owners act responsible and accept that their gun is more likely to shoot the owner or someone they know than some bad guy trying to break into their house.
Â
@fourwalles Well...  do you really want to read the news concerning everything that doesn't happen? Â
Â
weather - "it didn't rain today"
sports - "nobody played today"
local - "nothing happened in town today"
Â
It was a gun show. Â A place you would assume would attract smart gun owners. Â I expect this type of crap from stupid gang bangers. Â I don't expect it from adults who have a stake in what happens to our gun rights. Â
@sleever....." I expect this type of crap from stupid gang bangers. I don't expect it from adults who have a stake in what happens to our gun rights. "...well said, impressive Sir!
Â
"Loaded personal weapons are not allowed inside the show."
Â
The shotgun guy tried to take a loaded gun into the show. The 45 guy tried to load his gun when leaving the show.
Â
One breaking the law the other obeying the law. I bet they both passed all the background checks and took a gun safety course.
Â
You can't fix stupid.
Complete and udder jack-a-wipes. There are four, VERY SIMPLE rules to firearms safety and they disobeyed them all. These were not accidental, but rather negligent shootings.
@Bornhere I would be happy with (instead of a whole lot of more gun ban rules) to see more gun owners speak out the way you jut did.
You want to own a gun? Fine treat it with all the respect (and an ounce or two of fear) that it deserves. Practice that, Preach that, train that, and expect that from other gun owners.
Â
@T H I S ...I would add "and mercilessly ridicule demonstrated idiots and monkeys that do not abide by said rules until they are no longer a hazard to society (by not having a gun)".Â
@Bornhere "and they disobeyed them all"
And yet - since background checks are required - they presumably had passed and taken the course on gun safety.
Â
But what the corrupt media isn't reporting are all the times where people have defended themselves at gun shows.
Â
:) Â
@lakeview "people have defended themselves at gun shows."
Yeah...but there is that natty sign at the entrance - "Personal weapons must be unloaded while in the show"...so the law abiding gun people have to use knives...
@lakeview I need to read more carefully. I almost clicked "Like".
Perfect! Two really responsible gun owners who should as said by another, immediately deprived of owning anything more that a rubber band. And I bet that they are also avid fans of the defense of themselves and others...right.
Looks like these two individuals should be without any guns of any kind.
LOL
@Alikelystorey I thought it was funny as well for some reason.
