67 dead cats, 99 live cats taken from filthy N.Y. home
WRIGHT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say 67 dead cats and 99 living cats had to be removed from a filthy home in upstate New York.
Officials removed the cats from a home in Wright, near Albany, on Wednesday night.
The Times Union of Albany reports the dead cats were packed in plastic bags in the freezer and the live cats were in crates stacked floor to ceiling.
Sheriff's deputies went to the home after a neighbor called to complain about the overpowering odor of cat urine and feces.
Charges are being weighed against the cats' owner.
The manager of the animal shelter that took in the cats said she previously tried to try to help the woman. But she said the woman had "a hoarder mentality."

This had to be going on for quite a while to get that bad. I'm glad the neighbor finally called the sheriffs office, to bad not sooner. Hopefully these poor animals will have a brighter future. As for her, hopefully something will be done to keep her from ever doing something like this again.
"A hoarder mentality." Really? Thats it? As much as I hate to even inflict bodily harm on a woman of any kind, I think I would be willing to make an exception on this one! This just really gets me!
"Charges are being weighed against the cats owners." I should think so! Unbelievable what some people will do. Very selfish behavior among other things. I hope this person is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and never has animals of any kind again. The last thing a hoarder needs would be animals. No mention of what happened to the survivors. Hopefully, they all go to good homes if possible.Â
