Authorities: Father of slain girl commits suicide
LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say the father of a 13-year-old girl who was fatally shot on a school bus in South Florida last month is dead in an apparent suicide.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said 34-year-old Armando Alexander Guzman was found dead in a car near Fort Lauderdale Thursday morning from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A witness called 911 after noticing a bullet hole in the car's window and a person inside.
Guzman's daughter, 13-year-old Lourdes Guzman-DeJesus, was shot in neck on the way to school in Homestead on Nov. 20.
Authorities say a 15-year-old student pulled a gun from his backpack and fired it. Eight other children, including Guzman's 7-year-old sister, were not harmed. The student is charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed weapon.

By the time I was 19, had buried 9 friends. A gun was never involved in any of them. All but one involved cars and so that someone doesn't say it was because of young drivers, not everyone was either driving or in a car at the time. This isn't about gun control. It was a story of a grieving father who couldn't take losing his daughter. May they both rest in peace.
This is so sad. I'm surprised this has not happened elsewhere recently with all of the shootings happening, but very thankful it has not happened elsewhere either. May the daughter and father RIP
That is so sad that the father fell that far into depression, that he forgot about his 7 year old daughter. I know this has to be very over whelming for the daughter and mom. I hope they have the strength and each other to find the courage to find some kind of peace.Â
Will some NRA-type person please explain to me how more guns, Wayne LaPierre's solution to every problem, would have helped in any way in this situation?
Â
I know, maybe if the driver of that bus had been armed, they could have shot and killed the 15-year-old after he shot and killed the girl.
Â
I know, maybe if the person who found the grieving father's body had been armed, they could have riddled his corpse with bullets.
Â
Whatever you do, don't you ever blame the precious, precious gun.
@Sutekh Your opening statement is false but hey, why be honest or accurate. As for ever blaming the gun, no, I never blame an object, it is always ALWAYS the person who makes the choice to use whatever object. Do you blame a knife for a stabbing? The car is at fault for a drunk driving accident that kills someone?
@Sutekh" I know, maybe if the person who found the grieving father's body had been armed, they could have riddled his corpse with bullets." Overdramatize much, or anything for anti gun attention?
@Wolfen  @Sutekh Good grief. Unnecessary and insensitive.
@Sutekh Not everything can be prevented, there is no absolute security. Life is not without risk. Guns are not the answer to everything, getting rid of them is neither.
"Sources told the Miami Herald the gun belonged to Jordynâs stepfather, who kept it hidden on a top shelf of the parentsâ closet. Jordynâs mother did not know it was there. The teen had sneaked it to school without their knowledge."

well, another day, another shooting, another inicent victim. In this case, it is not the shooter, it's the gun. The boy had done this before and was showing it off-that makes the gun the problem.
Â
Now the father, I guess could not handle it, so took a gun and shot himself. I'll give the NRA this one, the guy have just hung himself.
@snoopy84 I've know 2 people who committed suicide and in both cases they did hang themselves. Of all the people I've known who died it's been 3 from cancer, 2 from suicide, 1 from a car accident, 1 from aphyxiation(car exaust, no one knows exactly what happened), 1 from diabetes and 1 from Pneumonia. I have never known anyone who was shot to death or even shot period. Guns are not the problem, the ease of getting one is.
@ValleyBronco "Â Guns are not the problem, the ease of getting one is."
Â
I can't agree more. That is why I think we need to enforce current laws and close gun shows.
This kid was taking the step father's gun out and he did not know it. Why wasn't that gun locked up or at the least have a trigger lock.
Anyone with kids know they snoop while your out, it is what kids do. I did it, my kids did.
Â
Guns are a problem once they are in the wrong hands.
Â
I know a kid who shot himself with a gun own by his mother's boyfriend. The boy and the mother had a big arguement, he turned and walk to a back bedroom and..................
