Casey Anthony files for bankruptcy in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Casey Anthony filed for bankruptcy in Florida on Friday, claiming about $1,100 in assets and $792,000 in liabilities.
Court records show that Anthony, who was acquitted of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in 2011, sought Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in federal court in Tampa.
Her listed debts include $500,000 for attorney fees and costs for her criminal defense lawyer during the trial, Jose Baez; $145,660 for the Orange County Sheriff's office for a judgment covering investigative fees and costs related to the case; $68,540 for the Internal Revenue Service for taxes, interest and penalties; and $61,505 for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for court costs.
The filling also states that she is a defendant in several civil suits, including one brought by Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez for defamation in Orange County Circuit Court.
Fernandez-Gonzalez claims her reputation was damaged by Anthony telling detectives that a baby sitter by the same name kidnapped Caylee. The detectives were investigating the 2008 disappearance of the girl, who later was found dead. Anthony's attorney said details offered by Anthony did not match Fernandez-Gonzalez and clearly showed Anthony wasn't talking about her.
Court papers list Anthony as unemployed, with no recent income.
An attorney for Anthony, David Schrader, did not immediately respond to messages from the Associated Press.
Anthony lists about 80 creditors in the 60-page court filing. The claims largely cover fees for legal, medical, psychiatric and forensics consulting or services. But one claim covers a debt for scuba diving services.
According to the courts, the aim of seeking Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection is to be discharged of most existing debts - essentially to obtain a fresh financial start. A trustee may have the right to take possession of and sell non-exempt property and use the sale proceeds to pay creditors, but Anthony lists little in the way of assets. A debtor may still be held responsible for some obligations, such as taxes and student loans.
The filing came on the same day that a Florida appellate court set aside two of the four convictions she faced for lying to detectives during the investigation into her missing daughter.
Though Anthony was acquitted of killing Caylee, jurors convicted her of four counts of lying to detectives, and her attorneys appealed those convictions. Anthony was sentenced to time served for the misdemeanors.
She was sentenced to a year of probation after her release from jail for an unrelated case. For her protection, her whereabouts have been kept secret since she was released from state supervision last year.

Does anybody, somebody want to put this creep and murderer out of her misery??
Who want's to so much as look at this schizophrenic??
Take of off the air waves somebody!!
So what.. I don't understand why this is news..
Boo hoo, oh well. I hope she never has another child.
Who cares? I find it hard to show sympathy for someone I believe either killed a little girl, or was involved in it. Her payment should be made from behind bars.
How does someone that young owe the IRS more than 68 grand? I'm glad she won't be able to get out of paying that and wish she wouldn't be able to get out of paying the rest.Â
The court should deny her bankrupcy request. Make her lying smirking killer butt pay all the debts associated with her daughter's murder. If she won't be serving her time behind bars then at least make her pay for it financially.
@Tattooed_Angel Why bother with trials? Obviously don't need jurors as long as there are folks around who, without being present in the courtroom, can do a better job than the actual jurors. You see, the thing is the only way anyone can come to the conclusion she is guilty of murder is to use their imagination. To fill in the empty spots in the evidence with assumptions. There have been obvious exceptions, like the oj trial, but for the most part jurors make the right decisions based on admissible evidence. A trial isn't based on news stories, or opinions from for profit commentators for a good reason. I believe juror error tends to go in favor of the state, because of people like you who happen to end up on a jury, hot to trot to lock someone up or hang them.
@uscit16791949 Let me ask you this. Are you a parent? If your child had gone missing, would you be out partying within days of your child's disappearance? Would you lie and mislead authorities about the disappearance or would you be honest with them in hopes that your child would be returned to you?
Â
She sounds real effing innocent to me! Even the jurors thought she was guilty and were disgusted that they couldn't find her guilty because the prosecutor lacked the details of how it happened.
Â
Some innocent people are charged of a crime and justice prevails by finding them not guilty. This is NOT one of those cases.
@Tattooed_Angel  Please remember that one is not guilty, unless proven guilty. The government can make a convincing case about just about anything...
Now, whether you like it or not, she has been found, by her peers, innocent of the charges brought against her.
Whether we like the result of the trial, we shouldn't be treating the accused any different, as they have only been accused. The court of Media, is very biased, and only shows you what they want to tell you.
To prove this, ask anyone who spent time in Iraq, or on patrol in Iraq, how the people treated them.. Everyone I know say that people were thanking them for doing what they were doing.. yet the media doesn't report that..
@Pollywannacracker Agreed! Yet foolish people defend her "innocence." However most people know the truth, that she murdered her little girl, and that's why she's been dubbed the most hated woman in America.
@Tattooed_Angel Lets not forget the evidence of a dead body in the trunk of her car. I'm pretty sure, if the trunk of my car is analysed, evidence of human remains will not turn-up.
@Tattooed_Angel She was NOT convicted of the murder charge..  You must be a member of the GOP....
@dale50000 She was guilty and if you think she was innocent, then your an idiot.
@dale50000  @Tattooed_Angel What bizarre logic you have.
Okay. Next story.
She will NEVER live a normal life ever again, and why should she?
 @DMT Why should you?
@uscit16791949 @DMT Chances are DMT has a car trunk like mine, one that does't test positive for human remains. Helps me live a very normal life.
She is the face of the devil with a smile.
 @Hagar Yeah, she's one creepy-looking chick.
