Ex-Sen. Dole hospitalized for routine procedure

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas has checked himself into Walter Reed Army Medical Center for what his spokeswoman described as a routine procedure.
Spokeswoman Marion Watkins says the 89-year-old Dole is "doing very well" and is expected to leave the hospital Wednesday.
Dole's name drew mention as the Senate on Tuesday debated a U.N. treaty promoting equal rights for the disabled. Dole overcame disabling war wounds to forge a 36-year political career. In the early 1990s, he underwent successful surgery for prostate cancer and in 2001 he had surgery to treat an aneurysm.
Dole spent 10 months at Walter Reed in 2010 after suffering pneumonia following knee surgery.
He was the Republican nominee for president in 1996, losing to Bill Clinton.

A very fair, talented man. Not what we have in DC right now. I voted for him. If someone like Dole ran against Obama last month Obama would not have had a chance.
@Hagar Will you just get over the O thing? He's prez for 4 more years, get used to it.
@mytake @Hagar Um, excuse me but I proudly voted for Mr. Obama. I also voted for Mr. Dole in 1996. And I would have voted for Mr. Dole over Mr. Obama. Guess what - I vote for the best man for the job. Civic lesson over. Dismissed.
It sounds like he has very good health insurance policy. 10 months at Walter Reed? It must not be medicare.

@rockguy He's a veteran.  He's entitled to care at a veteran's hospital, as are other service men and women.
