Former President Bush still hospitalized with lingering cough

HOUSTON (AP) - President George H.W. Bush, who has been in a Houston hospital with a lingering cough since November, needs to "build up his energy" before he can be released, doctors said Sunday.
Methodist Hospital spokesman George Kovacik said in an emailed statement that doctors are still optimistic the 88-year-old Bush will make a full recovery, but are being "extra cautious" with his care. Bush is in stable condition, he said.
Bush was hospitalized Nov. 23 for treatment of a bronchitis-related cough. Hospital officials have said Bush has been receiving physical therapy to increase his strength.
Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said on Thursday Bush could be released in time for Christmas.
However, Kovacik said Sunday a discharge date has not been set, and it remains unclear whether the 41st president will be able to spend the holiday at home. Kovacik said that could be decided Monday, Christmas Eve.

Get well Soon Mr. President,. I hope you get to go home soon to family and spend Christmas with them.
Â
I hope that he can return home before the end. Godspeed Mr. President.Â
I wish President Bush all the best. I voted for him twice an still consider him one of the best presidents since Eisenhower. Not perfect, but a good, decent man. The Greatest Generation. Get well, Mr. President.
hopefully cheney and jr will be joining him later
@sunnysandiego You are a mean individual.  Why so much hatred?  Ironic.
@belsnickles I may be a little mean in here but the policies of this guy and his offspring have caused many thousands to die.
Â
My "mean" streak so far has not ended the life of anyone

Please feel free to post in here where you negatively commented to one of the many rude comments directed at any of the recent democrats who passed. Â

@belsnickles "The thing I find interesting is that this sort of mean-spiritedness has deeply infected all levels of discourse, political and otherwise, in this country. Indeed, it has invaded many facets of human interaction, from anonymous nastiness on the net to aggressive driving to labeling those with whom we disagree as "evil."  It may sound naively simplistic, but maybe if we were all just a little more tolerant, a little less judgmental, a little NICER, things wouldn't be quite so deep in the dumper, societally speaking."

"Because lawlessness is increased, most peopleâs love will grow cold."

@belsnickles I totally agree with you.  I think it's one of the ways that this country has gone down the drain since I was a kid.  I remember my folks watching political debates, etc. in the 50s & early 60s.  Republicans & Democrats would vehemently and loudly disagree with each other, but it was respectful disagreement.  They behaved like adults.  In the end, they compromised.  It seems our culture and our politics have degenerated into a playground of badly behaved second-graders with all kinds of name calling, glee in the misfortunes of others, general meanness, pushing & shoving, not sharing, attention-getting for its own sake, etc.  What happened to degrade American democracy into immature & narcissistic nastiness?  And more importantly, what can we do to turn it around??
I have done that in the past, actually (Robert Byrd comes to mind). Â Glee over someone else's death or illness - or wishing those things upon people with whom you have ideological differences - is really alien to me. Â Now, I wouldn't shed tears for someone like bin Laden or Hitler, but short of that, why revel in someone's death? Â

@sunnysandiego I didn't vote for the guy, disagreed with almost all of his policies & thought he was a terrible president.  I nevertheless wish him well as a person & wish him improved health. I don't wish ill upon leaders (or others) I disagree with, even passionately.  Just seems like common decency to me.
@sunnysandiego  @belsnickles Justifying your hatred, how disgusting
I mean in the hospital of course.... yeah that's what I meant
