NYC subway shoving suspect: I was having a bad day
NEW YORK (AP) - A disturbed woman accused of shoving a man in front of a New York City subway train to his death last month says she did it because she was having a bad day.
Erika Menendez spoke to The New York Post on Friday at the city jail where she is awaiting trial in the killing.
Menendez tells the newspaper her "mind was just racing" the day of the attack.
She says, "I was homeless. I was hungry. I was fighting with my boyfriend. He came running up the stairs, and I just got up and pushed him."
Menendez says she picked her victim because of his ethnicity.
Slain 46-year-old Indian immigrant Sunando Sen was Hindu. Menendez says she has "been beating up Muslims and Hindus for a long time."

She looks awfully happy at the attention she's getting.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could just thin the herd like other species do. Some folks are just plain EVIL and need to be permanently discharged.
Most homeless people ARE mentally ill. We can thank Ronald Reagan for kicking open the doors of mental health institutions by cutting funding. Oh, yeah, it's a Republican thing, I forgot.

Aaaaand there you go. Disturbed murderer, opportunistic hate crime. Seems pretty straightforward - even with the insanity, she basically just described a thrill kill.
Everybody has a bad day. This is definately a hate crime considering she targeted the victim based on their ethnicity. Lock her up. She won't be worrying about being homeless anymore...

She should be charged with a hate crime. Doesn't matter her ethnicity or race.

Will they apply a latino woman with a hate crime modifier in her charge sheet? She has stated that she had argued with her victim before because of his nationality and/or race.

Probably not. The King County prosecutor let Naveed Haq off with an effective slap on the wrist for the Jewish Federation Shooting, argueably the biggest hate crime in Washington State in a half century.

Ethnicity...then this could be a hate crime as well, I would think.

The idea of a hate crime is repugnant. The punishment for the crime itself should be sufficient.

I'm sorry, but a bad day is when your car won't start and you're late for work, or you have a cold and can't take time off. It's not pushing someone in front of a train to their death because you don't like the color of their skin or where they came from. This animal needs to be euthanized.

Hate to tell you, hon...but if you've been beating up on Hindus and Muslims for a long time, you didn't shove this guy because you were having a bad day. Â Perhaps you should just keep your fat mouth shut.
