Officials: 15-year-old shoots, kills 5 inside N.M. home

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 15-year-old boy fatally shot two adults and three children at a home near Albuquerque, authorities said Sunday.
The teenager was arrested on murder and other charges in connection with the shootings Saturday night at the home in a rural area 10 miles southwest of downtown Albuquerque, Bernalillo County sheriff's spokesman Aaron Williamson said.
The victims' identities haven't been released, and the boy's motive and connection to the five victims weren't immediately known. Williamson said investigators were trying to determine if the victims were related.
"We are trying to identify the victims," Williamson said.
Each victim suffered more than one gunshot wound, he said.
Investigators also were trying to determine who owned several guns that were found at the home, one of which was a semi-automatic military-style rifle.
Authorities declined to release details of any conversation that the 15-year-old had with investigators.
The teenager was booked on two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
On Sunday, a police roadblock cut off public access to the narrow dirt road that leads to the home.
Detectives were still processing the crime scene Sunday afternoon.
Peter Gomez, a 54-year-old carpenter who lives about 200 yards from the home, said he saw police vehicles and ambulances arrive Saturday night.
Gomez said he doesn't know the family that lives at the house, but he has seen a married couple and their two boys and two girls from time to time.
"It's a horrible thing," Gomez said. "You see all this stuff that happens all over the country, the shootings in the schools and theaters, and then it happens right here. It's sad."

I don't understand why the charge of child abuse?
well... please hope new mexico leads by example and executes this obvious messed up child...wonder what that sheriff will have to say about this!
"Investigators also were trying to determine who owned several guns that were found at the home, one of which was a semi-automatic military-style rifle."...I, as everyone else, am horrified by this story, but when I read lines in the story like the one above, I question the media. So no knowledge as to whether or not this gun was used, but of the "several guns that were found" the only one listed in the report is the "semi-automatic military-style rifle." Like this gun made the kid go nuts...reminds me of the "satanic messages" in the songs of the 60's and 70's kind of reporting...Focus on the object not the real problem...that's our motto. Sad!
Â
RIP family and I hope the remainder of the family finds a stable and comforting home to help them live as normal of life as they can at this point...and has the moral fiber to keep the media mics out of their faces.
@aintno1special They simply listed a fact. Nothing was implied. You read too much into it.
@Rentonese What were the other "several" guns?
@aintno1special It's ridiculous.  I have a semi-automatic military style rifle as well, it's a .22 replica with a 10 round magazine.  I'd choose one of many other guns before I would try to defend myself with that gun.
Sad.
Good Lord! I don't care if the kid was doped up, I just someone to please bring a end to this madness.
@left-center The only way to end it is to get people to quit feeling sorry for themselves. it is a have and have not situation. Have friends, money, car, happiness, whatever. When people feel like they are not getting that need met is when depression and anger take over.
Â
I suppose the left solution would be socialism/communism. Afraid that doesn't work either though.
Should we bet and see if the kid was on some "mood enhancement" drug???
 @Busyhands Like these people?http://ssristories.com/index.html#FromIndex
Ah, my crappy hometown. Â For those wondering, yes, death of a minor is often classified as 'abuse or neglect resulting in death', even though it makes no sense to us. Â I know this because of my family's involvement in the death of a kid who OD'd on someone's prescription drugs, unfortunately. Â Can't imagine the terror this family endured before they passed; a tragedy for sure. Â The world's gone mad.
@Doxie Well, as long as the penalty for the child abuse charges are as stiff as they are for the adult murders, I guess it doesn't matter what you call it.  Actually, the child abuse penalties should be stiffer but that's just me.
@stamperzann They aren't really the same - it is usually an additional charge piled on (as they were in my brother's case), so I am hoping the murder charges follow for the children as well.
I wonder what sort of medications this one was on... I'm sure the media will try to keep that from getting out.
@think.about.it The media is all about scandals. If they thought a medication caused violent behavior they'd be all over it.
I'm not so sure about that...

@think.about.it Thanks for the link. Of the handful of stories I clicked on the site, each one provided a link to a news outlet that did mention a kid on a medication of some sort. That doesn't sound like a conspiracy on the part of the media to hide this information. Did the medication cause the kids to become violent? Or was it the original issue for which they were being medicated? I think it's a fair question that should be explored. I do know that kids can become suicidal ramping on or off of SSRIs. Perhaps they can also become violent.
@nodozr Not this quarter. It's all about evil black guns.
Sadly, sounds like he was one of the family. Neighbors mentioned seeing two adults and four children living at the house, which appeared to have quite a few weapons. Â Seems like all too often the culture of guns in a family, with an impetuous or angry teen, ends in tragedy. Â You are 45 times more likely to be a victim in your home by your own gun, at the hands of a family member, than living out your John Wayne fantasies of stopping an intruder. Â How horrific.Â

Gawd - easy there, Jeepster...
@Throbbinhood Just tired of trolls like her spouting incorrect info with no creditable sources.
 @JeepRex  @DTÂ
She dropped a decimal: Â 4.5 times

Was the shooter a good or poor student?
Another sad note is the neighbor, who "lives 200 yards from the house", doesn't even know who they are...
@XLRG Sounds like it's a pretty rural area. I know where I live, i don't know most of the people because you are rural.Â
@DT Actually, living out in a rural area, you are more likely to know your neighbors. When people are shoved close together, and would rather send texts, tweets, facebook updates, etc rather than talk to someone face to face, you get a society who does know how to interact with another person.
@XLRG My neighbors live 20ft next door, and I don't care to know them....
@Throbbinhood  @XLRG Mine, too.  The ol' neighborhood just isn't as friendly as it used to be.
@stamperzann @Throbbinhood @XLRG Just aint as friendly or you just aren't as friendly? I know all my neighbors. By name. thats 8 houses in my culdesac. It isn't much effort really. You decide to be neighborly and over time, people warm up to you and you all support each other. Funny thing...
The world continues to go crazy. I hope none of the victims suffered.
Sadly it's been reported that he allegedly killed his parents and 3 of his siblings.Â
@lakeview that's what I deduced from the story. House full of weapons, too.Â
@DT We have weapons(and I have seen the media count 3 weapons as FULL) and have 4 kids, one of whom is grown, another is an 18 year old boy and we have never felt worried that our kids would get so upset they'd take out the entire family. Our kids are taught gun safety and to never touch them without me or my husband around. My 18 year old would grab his without us here if he needed to protect his siblings but don't make it out to be that the "house full of guns" had anything to do with this tragedy. There are plenty of incidents where a family member or someone close to the family had stabbed everyone to death or beat them to death. All without a gun. Not sure of the numbers but I suspect they are much higher than the gun killings.
@DT  @lakeview If the house was full of weapons, where did they sleep? Eat?...crazy!!
"The teenager was booked on two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death." Huh? He killed five people, not two. Should be five murder charges. Will he get leniency from the liberal courts if it's only two counts of murder and three "child abuse resulting in death" charges? Seriously, who comes up with this stuff?
@Harley-H.S.C. three pointless, moronic rhetorical questions in one post. nowhere near the record of course... but hey you tried, sort of.... & yes, "huh" counts.
@tufa23 You amuse me little fella. :)
If this was 1930, we would be having a public hanging in about a week in downtown Albuquerque. Now they'll go to court and three years from now they'll go "oh he was only 15" so they'll sentence him to the DOC youth division until he's 21 so in three more years he'll get out with a "clean" record and then kill more people and people will go "oh but his time in the DOC youth corrupted him" so he'll serve 10 years and then get out and kill someone else and then, and only then, they'll go "well damn maybe this kid is a psycho." All in favor of a public execution next week in Albuquerque??Â
@SoundersCougzBravesPackers Public hanging would work, and right after that is done, we can all go on a witch hunt.Â
@Just my say Box lunches for the hunt?
@Bornhere I will bring the pitch fork, you bring the lunch.
Never mind the fact that some 15 year old kid murdered a bunch of people. Focus on dem damned gunz!
@Rick4001CS Umm.. doubt he could have killed them all with a steak knife or hammer, just sayin'.Â
@DT  @Rick4001CS There are plenty of ways to inflict harm or death on many people without a firearm.
Â
People are the problem. There is no sanctity of life. Morals and ethics have gone out the window for so many people out there.
@tufa23  @Gadsden  @DT  @Rick4001CS Well there was that guy in Puerto Rico that doused his family with gasoline and set them all on fire.  How many of them died?  Quite a few.
@uscit16791949  @DT  @Rick4001CS Wow, totally missed the point on that one didn't you?
 @tufa23  @DT  @Rick4001CS Gas and Styrofoam - Homemade Napalm.
@Gadsden  @DT  @Rick4001CS "People are the problem. There is no sanctity of life. Morals and ethics have gone out the window for so many people out there." Three good reasons to provide security where it is needed, and outlaw military style weapons. After the Constitution has been amended to limit, in the same manner that dynamite and dangerous chemicals are managed.
@tufa23  @Gadsden  @DT  @Rick4001CS The important part of Gadsden's post to me is "People are the problem. There is no sanctity of life. Morals and ethics have gone out the window for so many people out there." Nailed it!
Â
@Gadsden Americans are lazy...a gun is the easiest and quickest
@Gadsden  @DT  @Rick4001CS yeah sure there are plenty of ways.  Mind naming a few that are as quick and decisive for a 15 year old?
