Police say 9-year-old has given birth to baby girl
MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican authorities say a 9-year-old girl has given birth in western Mexico and they are looking for the purported father, a 17-year-old.
Jalisco state police spokesman Lino Gonzalez says the baby girl was born last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. He says the girl and her baby are doing well.
Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl's family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighborhood they both live in.
He says that if the teenager's paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.
Gonzalez says the girl told authorities the teenager was her boyfriend.

Parents alerted authorities AFTER she gave birth.. Huh?? Did they think she'd just gained a little weight? Jeesh
You people do realize there are 1000000 more crap like this happening through out the world right? Do you people only get sad when media reports it, or you like to voice your sadness so you look like the greatest person in the world?
@PuzzleFighter It's hard to "get used" to things like this and I don't think these people are trying to make themselves look great. Every life is important and that people still care enough to show compassion gives us hope that this world still has some feelings left.

I been following the story in the Mexican media since I find this to be disgusting the latest updates are shocking. Â The Secretary of Health gave an interview a few minutes ago to ask the public for help in finding the girl and her baby since they have gone missing. The local authorities went to the house to do a follow up but found that the house was empty no sign of any family members. Â
The girl told detectives she told her parents she was pregnant when she found out but they ignore her request to visit a doctor. Â They are not sure if she is indeed 9yrs old because there is no record of her at all she has never attended school. Because the docs stated that the physical characteristics of the victim are of an age greater than nine years more like 15.
The hospital staff felt it was right to implant an IUD on the girl due the changes of her being sexually active again. "The implant is part of the obligations of the state to offer an alternative to protect this child because the child returned to an abusive environment, she was raped in her home, she was violated at home and now she will returned home, we could not let her go without given her protectionâ hospital statement. The girlâs mother states that the child started her period when she was 7yrs and the girl stated that her boyfriend had asked her to move in with him.

Give the baby to the fathers parents and make them raise it. Obviously this little girls family shouldn't be raising another child.

This is sad on so many levels. Very sad. At least it sounds like the mother and baby are well and there is that to be thankful for.
Dear lord, my daughter is 9, I couldn't imagine her having a baby. If a 17 year old got my 9 year old pregnant they wouldn't be able to find him either...but not due to him hiding.

the girl did tell her parents she was 3months pregnant but her parents ignore her confession they did nothing. It was until she was about to give birth that they notice she was having complications that they decided to take her to the hospital.

The fact that a 9 year old has been allowed to associate with a 17 year old in a romantic way, gives the impression that her parents are not the most attentive, and would more than likely not provide a lot of support in the raising of her child. Historically it was viewed that when a girl was able to get pregnant she was "of age"...but the maturity level and responsibility of the kids today is much much lower. I just hope that someone will help care for both of these babies, and let them live a healthy "normal" life.
 @aintno1special Maturity level and responsibility are certainly lower, but also our children are developing physically much earlier due to the many hormones in our meat and milk.Â

@aintno1special I'm guessing that they didn't think it was a romantic relationship (at least I hope so). But it does serve as a warning to all parents to be aware of who is around your children.
 @The WA Mama I base it on my kids (boys), but if they were hanging out with someone and there was something more than platonic friendship I think the signs would be there. I or my wife would always know when they were at the very least attracted to someone.

@aintno1special I totally agree. It is disgusting. I wonder where this boy fits into the family's life? Could be be a babysitters son, son of a family friend, I don't know. It just makes me so mad that these predators (and yes at 17 he is a predator) victimize these poor kids.

Sad, sad, sad. Obviously no nine year old is mature enough or wise enough to be capable of consenting to a sexual relationship, even if she is headstrong enough to think that she is. I hope they find the suspected father and confirm paternity so that he can face justice.

This isn't even the youngest mother on record, though. That would be Lina Medina of Peru, who gave birth in the 1930's via cesarean section when she was under 6.
