Romney goes to Europe, causes international stir

LONDON (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has caused a stir in Britain by questioning whether the country is prepared to pull off the Olympic Games without a hitch.
The former Massachusetts governor is visiting Britain Thursday while trying to show he has what it takes to represent America on the world stage.
But instead of highlighting ties with America's staunchest ally, Romney may have embarrassed the Brits instead.
Romney said in an interview that it's unclear whether Britain can overcome the issues that have dogged its final preparations for the Games.
Leaving a meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Romney said he expects the Games will be successful.
Cameron said Romney and others will "see beyond doubt that Britain can deliver."

Both Romney and Obama have put their foot in their mouths and said some dumb things. Obama seems to always gets a free pass by the media when he does it, and when Romney does it...the media makes him out to be a complete idiot and unfit to be president.
Â
Just think back to some of the stupid things Obama has said: Like when he made a very inappropriate joke by comparing his bad bowling to the special Olympics, or when he said Israel must return to pre-1967 borders, or when he said he had visited 57 states, or when he made the bad joke about the shovel ready projects not being as "shovel ready" as he thought, or when he said the Kansas tornado killed 10,000 people when it killed 12, or when he said the Cambridge police acted "stupidly", or when he said the private sector is doing just fine but then had to backtrack and say "it's absolutely clear the economy is not doing fine".
Â
The only reason you would think that Romney is a complete idiot while Obama is super intelligent, is if you just believe everything the media tells you without doing your own research. If we are going to vote based on how many times each of these guys has made a stupid gaffe...than you might as well not vote for either of them, because they are both equally as guilty.
How about we vote for integrity and honesty? Where are those tax returns Romney? If you're so honest and there's nothing to hide, then just show them. Numbers don't lie!
@Koawoodplayer If Obama's got nothing to hide, he should stop posting fake birth certificates on WhiteHouse.gov of a dozen manipulated layers that can be separated by simply opening the file with Adobe Illustrator. Romney has released all the records required by law, so until the half-black half-white man starts releasing real documents himself, your demands hold little water.
Where are those documents from Fast and Furious hundreds of people are dead over that deal.  Where are O's college transcripts. Lets be consistant shall we?
Â
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Ried, Wasserman, and Shults are demanding the tax returns but refuse to release their own. When cornered about that Pelosi said it is a distraction and they have spent too much time on this, meaning too much time holding her to the same standard.
Â
Pelosi even admitted it not a rule just a tradition.
Â
Now if you want to bring up integrity and honesty, what about the promise of the most transparent administration ever?Â
Â
@Nitroxman Yeah, Koawoodplayer doesn't care about important documents that Obama is trying to hide which are tied to a scandal that lead to the death of hundreds of people...yet he's worried about Romney's tax returns. Gotta love double standards.
Some pretty harsh words towards Romney over a very vague report. Maybe he is just trying to follow the example of the current POTUS and insult and snub our allies. I hope he doesn't start bowing to other leaders and sucking up to our real enemies.
"stupid," "Right wing nut jobs," "d-bag."
Â
Hey, Censor bot! Are those OK?
@Sid Vishess Maybe they just get rid of stupid comments.Â
From another KOMO article about the London Olympics....
Â
Londoners who have spent much of the past few weeks worrying about rain, Olympic security, and strikes appeared to lighten up.
Â
So where was Romney wrong expressing concern? Even the Londoners are worried!! LOL
Â
Silly Main Stream Media just can't seem to keep enough distance between stories to prevent Truth from Percolating...
I am sure that if this has been Obama, you would be saying the *exact* same thing, right?
Â
Oh who are we kidding, you would be ranting and raving about something something muslim something.
 @>T H I S< Really, is that what I would do?
@kennewickman I think that @>T H I S< was responding to @Truth Percolates , but this new commenting forum seems to respond to everyone in the thread at times.
@>T H I S< If Obama had said this instead of Romney, most of us probably wouldn't even know about it...cause the media would have ignored it. I know the AP wouldn't have reported on it.
@snoopy84 And Fox would have probably been the ONLY ones reporting on it had Obama said it. MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC would not have gone anywhere near it if it had been said by Obama...or they at least would have found a way to praise him for it.
@glamdring2012 @>T H I S< You kidding? FOX would have dedicated the day to it. The GOP has entire 24/7 station working for them. It is called a news station but rewally does not do news well.
@glamdring2012 Yeah, it is a big media conspiracy designed to pick on the innocent and humble public servant Romney. Poor guy!
@Truth Percolates There is a big difference from a private citizen in London expressing doubts about the Olympics vs. the guy who wants to be President going over there and expressing skepticism about the competence of the British. Sure, Romney was within his legal rights to say what he said, etc, etc but it is more a matter of judgment and diplomacy. What you label as the "Silly Mainstream Media" is doing a service to all potential voters by relating the real behavior of someone who wants to represent America to the entire world. Seems odd that your partisanship blinds you to the realities of Romney's poor performance over there. Here is a parallel for you. You are invited to dinner. The hostess or host is free to criticize the meat loaf. As a guest, even if you don't like it, perhaps it would serve you best to just smile and say it is delicious. Seems like a no-brainer to me.Â
I didn't think it would be possible to find a presidential candidate with a bigger ego than George W. Bush. I'll never underestimate the enemy again.
At least Obama would NEVER dis our staunchest ally! No sirree!
Â
"Gotcha an i-pod, toots!"
"We were doing some housecleaning and decided to give back this bust of some guy named Churchill."
And this man wants to be POTUS? You just dont go around saying things like that in public about our staunchest ally. If he wanted to say something privately, based on his experience managing the SLC games, to perhaps provide insight or assistance to the British... well, there are private meetings in which one can say things like that, and diplomatic ways of saying it. President Obama has worked long and hard to patch up the damage GWB did to our international reputation. We dont need Mitt undoing all of that.

What is it about right wing nut jobs that dont see beyond North America or western Europe? President Obama has worked hard to rebuild our reputation in the Middle East to be one of not being hell-bent on destroying another nation over petty personal disputes. He has also worked hard with South American, African, and Asian nations to re-assure them that we are not the big bully in the sand box GWB made us out to be.
@EMDF9A The Chinese invented "The Art of War" (Sun Tzu). I am sure they have noted with great interest the passivity of the President.
Â
Africa? Bush is a hero in many African countries as a result of his AIDS' aid.
Â
Yes, "Peace in Our Time," indeed...
@EMDF9A It really is interesting. Certainly, he does have experience in Olympics management and as you say, he could perhaps provide some insight and high level advice. But, there are ways to do things and embarrassing the British and calling their competence into question in a very public way is just not the way to go about this. This just doesn't speak well of his judgment when dealing with sensitive issues.Â
Way to put your size 10 Berluti's in your mouth :)
Way to go picking a fight with our strongest European ally.
The dude is genius, Is he trying to alienate the whole world finishing the process what Shrubya started?
@Larry*X*K Your right! Obama had it all figured out.

@Truth Percolates So what does that make Romeny when he pretty gave the same speech about the governments roll in making businesses sucessful?
When told his audience that they could not run a business without the infrastucture of roads and rails that the government built. How about the guy in the Romeny saying built is own business from the ground up but fail to mention the government money he recieved to build that busness.
Â
Why "truthPercolates" as your handle? After all , the truth is what escapes you.
@Truth Percolates Seriously dude, it that what you are bringing to the table; Obama is a "Euro-Socialist", "community organizer" hyperbole and Ducatis are "euro-trash" bikes? Seriously, aside from the fact that many bikers would contest your classification of Ducatis, what are you going to bring us next; 9/11 conspiracy theories, the evils of Fluoridation, birth certificate stuff and the backwards masking of music lyrics in godless Rock n' Roll?I just genuinely love how you guys initially had to hold  your nose while picking Romney but you have now convinced yourself his is the best thing since sliced bread. Of course, maybe you are right, a job-outsourcing corporate raider who hides his tax returns while auditioning for the highest office in the land is really a man of the people. At least he is not a "euro-socialist"!
YUP- Kennewickman dude ole boy - the fascinating thing is you libs still can't grasp what socailism is until all the frogs have gotten boiled in the pot.....think about it.......
Â
yes Ducati's are cool it's just fun watching you libs come unglued so easily.
Â
What is so hard about reality?? Facts and data just seem to trip you libs up - stop tyring to "feel" your way thgrough life. Romney merely pointed out that eany major event has it's problems.
Â
Why are you starting to rant about totally unrelated subjects...911 conspiricies, floridation, rock n roll...Â
@kennewickman  @Truth Percolates He is only a tax evading money laundering crook, much better than socialism
 @Larry*X*K Tony Rezko, anyone?
@Larry*X*K How did my comment about getting back the bust of Churchill get deleted? Geez, Touchy, now ain't we...
@Larry*X*K I wonder if there were any actual evidence, that the DOJ would be on that? Since there is not, it is simply the fantasy of the Left.
Â
Hey, do you know how Obama bought his house in Chicago? Talk about crooks.
Slick Willy goes to London. Perhaps he should stop on his way back to the States and check on his offshore accounts that he uses to evades US taxes. The epitome of what is wrong with this country!! However that is what the GOP has become. Representing the interests of corporations, millionaires, billionaires, and the wackos.Â
Stated better than I could.
 @mstipton I'll second that.
Where's the quote?!!! I'm assuming the AP is lying, otherwise they would have provided the complete context.Â
@GeorgeG. It's hard to quote semi coherent babble word for word
@Larry*X*K We should be used to it after 3 and half years.
@GeorgeG. I also find it a bit sophomoric that this article was so vague, I gotta wonder sometimes about the future of American news outlets. Anyway, here is a link to some UK coverage. It really doesn't sound like Romney was exercising judicious tact to say the least.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/mr-leader-did-mitt-romney-forget-ed-milibands-name-7978925.html
Pffttt... Talk about media bias. They take an innocent quote out of context and spin it to make some type of manufactured faux outrage. Ridiculous. If this was obama, the media would be spinning to make him sound like a deity. "Journalism" is dead.
@GeorgeG. The media and the excludes FOX report the news unlike FOX that makes ups the news. FOX has no problem putting out one lie after the other and rewriting history. Those on the right buy it hook line and sinker. Even after Murdoch the owner of FOX let his people go around Great Britian hacking phone lines, you think FOX is a cretable news source.
They lied about Obama's business speech, then agian took it ouf context when Obama explained it.
I don't know how people can be so stupid to make FOX thier news source.
Â
I don't listen to FOX, I actually listened to the speech. Lets see, the truthful media like ABC news that tried to link the nutjob shooter in Colorado to the Tea Party, truthfulness like that? There isn't enough space to list all the lies spewed by MSNBC.
@Nitroxman They're just trying to link him to the Tea Party, because the Tea Party strongly advocates the 2nd Amendment.
@snoopy84 "I don't know how people can be so stupid to make FOX their news source"
Â
I ask that exact same question about all the liberals who make MSNBC their news source.
@snoopy84 I thought they had officially switched their name to FAUX News, seems more appropriate.Â
What about Mitt using Obama's "you didn't build that" out of context?
@ducati "
"What about Mitt using Obama's "you didn't build that" out of context?"
Â
Stop trying to convince people that they are so stupid that they didn't understand what they heard. Obama screwed up and confirmed what most of us all ready knew, that he adheres to the principles of socialism. Americans do not want a socialist country, we do not want to follow in the footsteps of Europe. Next November the American people will vote and the mistake that is Obama will be corrected.

@OdramaMustGo You're supposed to listen to what the President means, not what he says.
With Romney you're supposed to listen to what MSNBC tells you he said.
It is kinda funny if you listen to the entire original speach in context. He was not praising business at all, he was giving justification for him wanting to raise taxes. Please, I urge everyone to actually listen to his original speach and take the kool-aid glasses off and see what he is actually saying
 @kennewickmanÂ
"Obama was clearly talking about the fact that no business stands on its own, it benefits from our common infrastructure."
Â
And business didn't contribute tax dollars to help build those roads? We all benefit from our infrastructure and every working American has contributed to construction of infrastructure. Every business has a road leading to it but not all businesses are successful. Obama's exact words were " If youâve got a business -- you didnât build that. Somebody else made that happen." Look up the meaning of "intergrity" you might just find that you are the one lacking.
@kennewickman  It's just payback for when Romney's comments were taken out of context. The difference is, although he may have tried to say what you think he said, we all know that's what he believes.
Â
Â
@OdramaMustGo Or, if a person has enough integrity to be interested in the full speech and the actual contexts of the remarks a person could watch this. Obama was clearly talking about the fact that no business stands on its own, it benefits from our common infrastructure. No trucking firm could succeed without using the interstate highway system that all taxpayers have funded. To deny that common social investment by all Americans in an affront to reason and honest debate.http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2012/07/25/exp-erin-avlon-fact-check-campaign-ads.cnn#/video/bestoftv/2012/07/25/exp-erin-avlon-fact-check-campaign-ads.cnnÂ
