Woman's sex romp exposes workers' comp fraud
SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) — A sex romp at a public park helped prosecutors convict a California woman of faking an ankle injury to collect workers' compensation payments, authorities said.
Modupe Adunni Martin, 29, was sentenced to nine months in jail on Thursday in San Mateo County after pleading no contest in October to felony workers compensation fraud.
Martin was caught on videotape in August 2009 throwing her crutches into a car and running in high heels to meet her boyfriend at a public park, where she took part in a sex act that doctors concluded she couldn't have done with an injured ankle, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
She was arrested and charged with 10 counts of insurance fraud.
"I guess love just helps one get over injuries," Wagstaffe said in a phone interview on Friday.
Martin reported the injury in February 2009 while working as a janitor for the Sequoia Union High School District.
Claiming the injury left her unable to walk, Martin made 10 visits to doctors over a three-month span. A co-worker suspected she was exaggerating and alerted the district, which advised investigators.
Martin was taken into custody after sentencing. A call to her attorney, Emily Andrews, by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.
Martin was also sentenced to 3 years of supervised probation and ordered to pay more than $79,000 in restitution.

What an idiot! She deserved to get caught.
Hey! It's not she got fired for drinking and getting high on the job and then got her job back. That would never happen in a just society.Â
Â
Still, the correlation of sex act to injured ankle is ...intriguing.
Can we see the video?
Â
On second thought.... let me google this chick.

Humm, a sex act that requires ankle support, can think of a few..
where she took part in a sex act that doctors concluded she couldn't have done with an injured ankle
Â
How'd you like to be the one that had to evaluate that? Â And what exactly was the act?! Oh my!
@JusticeSeeker And I am sure they had to review the video multiple times just to be sure.
1 down 99999999 to go. oh I just spained pinky!
Our school janitors seem different than this one.
@PilonidalCyst Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen school janitor that I'd *want* to see in high heels... ROFL
As a man, what I know about running in high heels isn't much. But I can say that if a woman can run in heels, there isn't a damned thing wrong with her *ankles*...
@svensson I can't even run in heels and my ankles are fine!
People like this really irritate me. I used to work for a company that oversaw worker's compensation claims and there numerous times when our investigators caught people who were faking it. I mean, really obviously doing things that they couldn't possibly have done according to their "doctors" (which I put in quotes because anyone who fakes their diagnosis is not worthy of being called a doctor). This always frustrated and irritated me because there are a lot of people who are honestly hurt and honestly can't perform their jobs anymore. It always seemed like the ones who really were hurt were also the ones who drew as little compensation as possible, getting back to work as quickly as they could and sometimes too quickly, thereby aggravating their injuries. I guess we were lucky, though, that so many of the fakers weren't willing to fake it when they thought nobody was watching, since that's how we caught them.
@justathought - I'm glad you caught them. I lived next door to a couple who took disability and workers comp for back injuries and yet they could move full freezers up onto a truck bed with no problems.Â
