37-pound tubby tabby Biscuit in need of home
ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - At 37 pounds, Biscuit is about the right weight for a 4-year-old - human, that is.
A St. Louis-area animal shelter is trying to find a new home for the sweet tabby with a sweet tooth.
Biscuit's salad days were spent pigging out, and now at roughly three times the weight of a healthy adult cat, he's restricted to about a cup of diet food per day.
His first owner, a disabled woman who fed him lots of treats, brought him to the St. Charles Animal Control shelter about a year ago because she could no longer care for him, Teresa Gilley, the shelter's lead animal control officer, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
"She didn't mean the cat any harm," Gilley said. "I just think she didn't know any better."
Another woman took him in but had to return him about a week ago because her new apartment doesn't allow pets, she said.
Gilley said the tubby tabby isn't crazy about his new low-calorie diet, but he has begun adjusting to it. When he arrived, Biscuit could only take a few steps before lying down and panting, but now he's showing increased energy.
"The other day I went into the office, and he was up in the chair," Gilley said. "So he was able to jump pretty high."
Biscuit is neutered and is believed to be about 4. Gilley said he's easygoing and loves being petted.
"He's sweet and loving, and if you talk to him, he'll talk back," Gilley said.
Any prospective owner would need to keep Biscuit away from the gravy and on a strict diet.
0:23 Dog: LOOK AT YOU! Â FAT KITTEH! Â GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!
Poor Biscuit........he really did have too much gravy.......... Â I almost cried when they said jumping up onto a chair was an accomplishment for this poor kitty.Â
Omigosh this poor thing! I just want to hug him! He looks just like my Oliver +23 pounds. I do hope someone can give him a proper home. I have to put one of my cats on a diet and it's so hard to look into those puss n boots eyes every time he thinks he's "starving" to death.
I love kitties!
My cats weigh 12 lbs each and one looks skinny but the other looks like she swallowed a basketball. I hope this kitty finds a loving home. :'(
@SoTweetie Mine too! They are both 14lbs, about a month apart, and one is in shape and plays all day and the other you have to roll off the couch once or twice to make sure he's still alive.
@cm257n7 @SoTweetie Sounds like one cat I owned. Friskers died of old age when I was 19-he was a hearty 23. He would waddle into our drive way on a hot day and take a cat nap. He was so lazy you had to get our of your car, pick him up and chuck him over the fence to make him move. he would then he would give you the look of "yo B!tch how DARE you" As he got older you had to roll him off the sofa once or twice to make sure he was still kicking
Oh my gosh, he's so adorable! I wish he weren't in St. Lewis, my house always has room for 1 more!
@kockatoo Actually....I betcha if you contacted them perhaps there might be a way to work something out. They're so desperate to get him a home. Just sayn'
@JustJace2u Wowza! My Kinzie is *only* 22 pounds... And he's big enough! :)
Aww, Biscuit, you're so cute. Â I hope you find someone who wants you enough to keep you and loves you enough to put you on a diet.
I WANT "@komonews: Now, THAT'S a fat cat. 37-pound tubby tabby Biscuit in need of home http://t.co/cnRcp8TiuYâ
I'd adopt him if I didn't already have 2 animals (the apartment's limit)
Fat women do the same to their kids. Fill them full of treats and junk food. Guess what? Fat kids.
@Klondiko How about we take the food manufacturers to task for engineering food to be highly addictive?
@1opine @Klondiko How about we take responsibility for our own actions.
@1opine @Klondiko That's a slippery slope. There are plenty of food choices out there that are healthy and do not contain the "addictive" qualities that many people complain about.
@Klondiko I see a lot of fat men too in many of these fat families. Don't blame just the women.
Ohhh I want him- I love tubby kitties. The maincoon we have now was almost 22lbs when we got her and our vet had us put her on a diet now she is a nice 12 pounds, still not skinny but better than 20lbs. I wish Biscuit was closer.
@komonews I want him. I would love to adopt him
@Hawkgirl4life  I hope you do.... what a fun cat!
@Hawkgirl4life I love fat kitties!Â
