900 dead pigs found floating in Shanghai river
BEIJING (AP) - Chinese officials say they have fished out 900 dead pigs from a Shanghai river that is a water source for city residents.
Officials are investigating where the pigs came from. A statement posted Saturday on the city's Agriculture Committee's website says they haven't found any evidence that the pigs were dumped into the river or of any animal epidemic.
The statement says the city and Songjiang district governments started retrieving the pigs on Friday night. By late Saturday afternoon they had recovered and disposed of more than 900.
The statement says the water and environmental protection bureaus are ramping up monitoring of the river's water quality.
They knew that eventually they would be pork fried rice.
Ritual suicide?
I guess pigs don't have any money to afford kool-aid and cyanide like all the normal people.
While we're at it, don't eat Tilapia from the Philippines either.
....And people wonder why I never drink the water when visiting there...sheesh china how about you focus on taking care of your people than trying to be a superpower... right now you are a super loser to have your water quality being so bad even pigs can't drink it...
@Freespeech According to Forbes, they just acquired several more billionaires. Maybe they should focus less on money and those empty shopping malls and apartments/office buildings and more on their environment and people. Next they will be buying out Bellevue...oh wait!
this is some kind of vendetta against somebody. the pigs were stolen and killed. the person or persons who are being threatened understand the message. man's inhumanity to man (and animals): very very sad.
Just more Western Capitalist running dog propaganda to smear China.
@Harri Kari Don't like western capitalists? Move to China, see how much you like it there.
@Harri Kari Oh well!
WTF !!!
Proves one point, its a question mark if pigs can fly, but a definite no if pigs can swim...
was someone casting out demons?
(Mark 5:13)
If this is the water quality China has to offer, I guess I'll be passing on buying any kind of vegetable or fruit grown there because who knows what's in the irrigation water for the crops, and I won't even go INTO the seafood aspect of it.........Oh wait, I forgot. If it says "Made in China," I don't buy it anyhow. :)
@Takamine Do they still use human excrement to fertilize their crops?
Maybe they tried to fly. They will all end up as dog treats in America.
If that's the river I saw last year, it's unthinkable it would be used as a water source for anything at all. Â It is gross, pretty much matches the air quality as you can't even see across the river because of the pollution.
If the pigs weren't dumped, how the heck did 900 of them get there? Â Mass pig suicide? Â Makes no sense.
Wow, sad. It looks absolutely filthy based on the photo.
@SoTweetie It's disgusting.  Chao Phraya in Bangkok is worse, but it's not a water source for anything but irrigating crops.  China needs to clean up its act.  Much of it is a filthy, environmental nightmare pit.
WTF?!?!?!Â
Was that pictured really necessary?
China makes me sick! We should have nuked them years ago!!!
@Gogorat Macarthur wanted to but the Democrats said no. He also wanted to go into Russia and meet Patton half way. The Democrats said no.
@Gogorat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuyahoga_River
@Gogorat Yes, because disgusting things NEVER happen with water supplies here in America.
@spacegoddess @Gogorat Spoken like a true American, lol.
Probably became aware they were pigs living in China and decided to drown themselves.
Watch these processed pig products end up on the shelf of walmart
Pig soup?
looks like even the pigs want out of China. Look at all of the crap on the bank from stuff floating down the river, and those people drink water from that river??? Â GROSS !
@Seahawker You're right, look at all the garbage besides the dead pigs , how did that get there?
@Seahawker It's what the United States would look like if the United Corporations of America had their way........
@Funky-Munky @Seahawker Sad but true. People who think we don't have to take care of the planet we live on, that it will be fine and that taking care of it is pointless because crops will never fail no matter what we do, well and truly scare me. I wish people (and corporations) would wake up and realize that if we kill the planet we will kill ourselves.
