Bad 'Fresh Prince' rap triggers school lockdown

AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) — Now this is a story all about how a high school student's life got turned upside down. But it was all just a bad rap.
The teen's voicemail greeting triggered a lockdown at his Pennsylvania school after a receptionist misheard his rendition of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song.
While trying to confirm an appointment with 19-year-old Travis Clawson the receptionist thought the message said "shooting people outside of the school." The line is actually "shooting some b-ball," a reference to basketball.
The receptionist called 911 and Economy police arrested Clawson a short time later at Ambridge Area High School, but released him once he explained the message.
Acting police Chief James Mann says police acted "appropriately" out of concern for students' welfare.
Clawson's family has contacted an attorney.

so some  lady with bad hearing  heard some rap music on an answering machine and gets all frightened because she thinks the lyrics to the song is about school shooting and she calls 911? Apparently somebody has to get arrested because the police were sent out to investigate. I suppose the police have quotas to meet  and don't bother to listen to the voicemail first. I think I would have either fired the incompetent lady or perhaps arrested her for making a stupid call to 911.
...because someone with plans to really do that is certainly going to make a catchy little jingle on their voicemail about it.
@Hadrian That's hilarious.
19 and still in high school? He's off to a good start.
This is so disturbing, I am not sure what to say. I think at the least a profane phone call would be in order...
The fact that he was actually arrested is ridiculous. Â I'd like to know more about how he was arrested or how long he was detained before I pass judgment on the lawyer getting involved.
@oledawg No kidding. It's not his fault the stupid lady doesn't know the song and mis-heard it... grow a pair of ears lady!
After reading some more on this I would probably get a lawyer too, he was arrested, his locker was searched, and he was taken to the police station for questioning. Â To clarify it was the receptionist at his eye doctors office who called police.
these ppl work with kids all day and have no clue. Â we saw the adults as stupid with no common sense. nothing has changed. Â cops arresting a kid on just anothers word? Â wow!
Appears the fearmongering tactics of our leaders is working.....................
@Takamine What are you talking about? I can't understand you at all man lol. It's just messed up they flipped out over a petty rap song. This kid shouldn't get in any trouble, he didn't do anything wrong.Â
@keepthepeace28 @Takamine I'm not positive of course.......but I'm pretty sure that is what Takamine was referring to...... an over reaction because the anti-gun culture has flipped its lid......
@Susabelle @keepthepeace28 @Takamine I think you meant "anti-School Shooting" culture.
@Susabelle @keepthepeace28 @Takamine Spot on Susabelle
Now this is the story all about how a receptionist's life got flipped-turned upside down. She misheard one little voicemail and she got scared.... you know the rest. ;)
Of course theve contacted a lawyer....Cha Ching, LETS GIT US SOME FREE MONEY!!! problem is its bs and I hop to god I get on one of these FRIVOLOUS lawsuit juries...There costing taxpayers TOO MUCH. OK so she over-reacted, accept the apology and move the F%&* on. people jumpin on a free payday make me sick
â@komonews: Bad 'Fresh Prince' rap triggers school lockdown http://t.co/YeQUGJplMhâhahahaha!
How the heck did this BS make it to an arrest? Did no one else bother to listen to the message to verify the receptionists claim? Good Lord, talk about a lack of common sense and a waste of time for the police.
Yo Homes smell ya later!!!!
@toolbox1007Â Hilarious! Had me cracking up...great comment.
â@komonews: Bad 'Fresh Prince' rap triggers school lockdown http://t.co/T4pQJ165tnâ // poor rap skills can be dangerous
Maybe if the kid's message was based off of the "Saved By the Bell" theme song, the receptionist would have been understanding. Â As Will Smith would say, "No need to argue, receptionists just don't understand... " lol! Â
@komonews has that receptionist never watched the Fresh Prince?!
Hey Ms. Receptionist...the 90s called and they seemed to have missed your street! How do you not know this tune? Either she needs to retire because she must be old as dirt...or they hired someone WAY to young!Â
Where's the witch? They're "ALL" witches. Nevermind the ergot in my corned beef and rye.
wow! this is right up there with the student who was suspended for having a gun as a screen saver on his computer at school or the student who was suspended after shaping his school lunch into the figure of a gun or the student who was suspended for bringing a gun shaped bubble blower to school.... the list of over reactions goes on and on.... and on and on.
The receptionist must have missed the 90's. Sounds like a bit of an over-reaction considering. Didn't the police call as well to hear it, or did everyone miss the adventures of Will and Jazzy Jeff?
@IlBrutto13Â She seems to have missed everything from the 90's to now-Â my kids are 14 and 8 and they have seen the show and know the song.Â
