Cat that spent week in tree survives 80-foot plunge

MARION, Mass. (AP) - A stray cat that spent at least a week stuck in a Massachusetts tree before plunging 80 feet to the ground and fleeing has been found, and all things considered, appears to be in good health.
A Marion Animal Hospital veterinarian said Wednesday it's "unbelievable" that the cat dubbed Fortunate has just a couple of pulled muscles and a possible parasitic infection.
The cat was spotted in a Rochester, Mass., tree on Christmas Eve. Several rescue attempts failed before firefighters cut the branch it was perched on Sunday. Cat shelter founder Pam Robinson finally trapped the skittish feline on Tuesday.
Robinson tells The Standard Times she will keep the cat for a few weeks so it can regain weight before putting it up for adoption.

I am 72 years old and I have never seen a cat skelton in a tree.
She is a pretty cat. Hope she finds a great new owner.
Yes it was right next to the story about 5 moles in Mr. Johnson's front yard...
Slow news day?
@K. Coleman Considering the content of a busy news day, I will take a slow news day any day of the week. If I had video of our cat jumping over the dog earlier today, I would have submitted it as a hot tip.Â
Thank goodness the puddy is ok. Life is an adventure if you own cats! Love mine more than most people and wouldn't give them up for anything! Hope he finds a great home.
Hey, they don;t call him Fortunate for nothin'! :) Great story, and really cute kitty!
I sure hope this kitty gets a good home. Unfortunately their nails allow them to climb up but don't do them any good getting down. Glad the kitty is okay.
My cat was stuck up in a 80 ft cedar tree and couldn't get down. I had to call an arborist, who came out to get her down. Whem he tried to reach her, she jumped down 40 feet into the tree and then 40 feet to the ground. This happened right here locally in Puget Sound and didn't make the news.
@Carol B Did you call the media outlets and inform them of your story? If not, that could very well explain why it didn't make the news.
@Surveyor1Â - Nope. You mean that you have to call them and tell them? I thought they automatically knew everything going on. I didn't realize that a cat being up a tree was newsworthy. That would explain it.
@Carol B I renamed one of our cats to Benjamin....Cause it cost me $100 for the arborist to climb the tree it was in.....same thing...took about a 60' free fall....still doing fine.
@Controlled-Insanity @Carol B My arborist charged me $75 so I guess got a bargain. Benjamin's a good name-very appropriate. Mine's doing just fine, too. Of course I took her to the vet. Other than being a bit dehydrated and spots of pitch, she was OK.
@Controlled-Insanity @Carol B Mine disappeared for a month to the day. No idea where he went. But I woke up on a Sunday morning and he was sitting on my porch with a mouse in his mouth. He hasn't left the house since and I am OK with that.
@swansong68 Mine went "walkabout" for about three months, came home tho.
@swansong68 -Â Same cat also disappeared for about 3 weeks last summer. One day she just turned up. Â One of the neighbors thought she was a "stray" and gave her to another neighbor. She escaped and came home. I let the neighbor know that just because she doesn't have a collar, doesn't mean she's a "stray."
@swansong68: Sounds like kitty was saying sorry for being gone so long. When a cat brings you a treat like a mouse you know you are owned, lock, stock and barrel.
Like my daddy always told me. "You'll never find a dead cat in a tree".
About a year ago as I looked out my window I spotted this cat across the street,in the alley and all the way up a telephone pole.I went and told the neighbors and turns out the guy is part time fireman. He brings a ladder and can't reach it.He ended up nailing two long 2x6's together and had to wait it out.The poor cat finally realized what the boards were for and made it's way down.I think the cat was up there about 4 or 5 day's.
