Cops find drugs worth $246 million in steamroller

SYDNEY (AP) - Australian police seized 237 million Australian dollars ($246 million) worth of cocaine and methamphetamine found inside a steamroller shipped from China.
Australian Federal Police said Wednesday that they arrested a Canadian man and a U.S. man in Sydney after finding 770 pounds of cocaine and meth. The men were charged with importing drugs and face a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
It was the police agency's second major drug bust in a week.
On Friday, police said officials had tracked down a boat carrying 440 pounds of cocaine to Australia after it ran aground in the small island nation of Tonga.
A corpse was found on board. Officials are trying to determine the cause of death.

After reading this five times, I'm still not exactly sure what happened here. Either the turkey I ate has left me a little brain damaged or this article is just that poorly written. So... this boat, run by two masterminds (American and Canadian), left China then ran aground in Tonga and somebody there suspected drugs so they alerted Australian officials (the boat's destination) that this boat was coming and then the Australians found the drugs and a dead body? Did Tonga not have the right or not have the man power to fulfill this "bust" on their own?
@Table9
No these are two different cases. âIt was the police agency's second major drug bust in a week.â The steamroller and the boat that ran aground are two different drug busts.Â
The problem with "news" now is that it's all regurgitated AP stories from a single source, AP. And nobody, not AP or the numerous news outlets that regurgitate this garbage bothers to fact check, spell check, or even read the articles; they're just recirculated as truth.
Â
As Nathan Boi questions below, and I've pointed out, the numbers in this article are so far off it's pathetic.
Â
Secondly, the first "drug bust" wasn't a drug bust at all - nobody was charged, and the police didn't do anything except find a boat full of drugs with a dead person on it. So that's not really a drug bust per se. No arrests, so nobody was busted.
wait one pound of cocaine is worth $320,000. Im no drug expert but that sounds pretty crazy
 @Nathan Boi Yeah, that's way off. If you take street price of $100 per gram, and multiply that @ 28 grams per ounce x 16 ounces in a pound, you get a street price of $44,800 per pound, or $34,496,000 for the entire 770 pounds.
That is NOT a "steam" roller! It isn't powered by steam nor does it roll steam.
 @Furd Then what is it?Â
 @timdog  @Furd Road Roller
Â
 @timdog  @Furd like one made by Evangel Industrial, a single drum road roller LTS212H
Man, if they can get life for that, then we're seriously behind on the justice scale!
Should have put Mark Wahlberg on the job.
Shipped from China. Don't hear that much. Those crazy Aussies.
 @Klondiko I wonder if they seized the drugs because of lead contamination.
Damn! That's a lot of drugs.
