Couples race through mud for wife's weight in beer and cash

NEWRY, Maine (AP) - A Finnish couple has added to their victories by taking first place in the North American Wife Carrying Championship at Maine's Sunday River ski resort.
Taisto Miettinen and Kristina Haapanen traveled from Helsinki, Finland - where they won the World Wife Carrying Championship - for Saturday's contest.
The Sun Journal reports that the couple finished with a time of 52.58 seconds on a course that includes hurdles, sand traps and a water hole.
The winners receive the woman's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash.
For Miettinen and Haapanen, that meant a check for $530. They shared their beer winnings with the second- and third- place finishers - Jesse Wall and Christine Arsenault of South Paris and David and Lacey Castro of Lewiston.

How do they convince the wife to let them do that... definately don't want to drop her when she is in the position or fall on your back... that looks like a head injury waiting to happen...
So the winner's wife only weighed a little over 100 pounds, that's a wee wife! Â The wife's face in picture #1 is priceless, even funnier than her husband's.
@Doxie 106 lbs to be exact...not a compromizing position at all, unless one drops their wife ... it'd be brocoli for a year!
@Freespeech Some of us feed our hubbies lots of broccoli just for fun, not because we've ever been dropped!
That does NOT look like fun at all. lol
Both the wives look thin which is good. Otherwise the guys would have been crawling to the finish line
@Vince But imagine 200 pounds of beer...  :-D
Â
@Glassman  @Vince plus a thousand in cash - nothing wrong with that.
