Ex-mayor erects statue of himself at Michigan home

DAVISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The former mayor of Flint, Mich., who resigned in 2009 while facing a recall has erected a bronze statue of himself outside the gated entrance to his home.
The Flint Journal reports that the statue of Don Williamson in Genesee County's Davison Township, near Flint, is surrounded by six bronze lions.
On the base of the statue are the words: "The Colonel's Inc. Founded by Donald J. Williamson May 10, 1984. His motto 'Success is the best revenge.'"
Williamson says the statue was made 20 years ago and was originally displayed at The Colonel's Inc., the auto parts firm where he made his fortune.
Williamson says the lions were imported by his wife. Of the lion statues, he joked: "Careful, one of them is alive."

Ok so make a big Kool-Aid statue next to it ... 'Oh Yeah!'
Even the statue looks pissed off that it is being used in such a narcissistic fashion...look at the face!
That's actually a statute of Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys owner) that he bought at garage sale. Before he went to Jenny Craig.
So he committed some crimes in 1962, and then made good in the auto parts business after he served his time.Â
I think the statue is kind of cool, and lets people know right at the end of the driveway, he doesn't care what anyone thinks. He sounds like an interesting character.Â
when I leave I want to leave something to be remembered for, I think a bronze turd would have been more fitting.
That man/statue has the quintessential "spare tire." He could have at least gone with a better likeness.
He is so full of himself, or full of something.
Well the pigeons need a rest stop to leave a deposit. Looks fitting for that. Envirowhackjobs should love it.
Time for another exciting round of "Guess the party"!
@Vexorg "Williamson was convicted for several business scams in 1962 and served 3 years in prison before being paroled. These involved buying cars with bad checks and purchasing items without actually paying for them. [...] During the 2007 election, Williamson claimed that the city had an $8.9 million surplus. However, after the mayoral elections, it was revealed that the city was in a $4 million deficit. Williamson had to fire 60 city employees and proposed firing 60 police officers and 9 firefighters, and closing the city jail. [...] Political party Democrat".
Â
Coulda fooled me. Musta been a Bush Democrat!
@JLS1950  @Vexorg JLS, exactly right - wiki on him says "In both elections, Williamson, a Democrat, was opposed by the state Democratic party for a variety of reasons, including his campaign donations both he and his wife made to George W. Bush. They contributed the maximum amount.[6]"Â
Â
LOL I don't know why, but I kind of like the guy. Don't know if I would buy a car from him though!
 @Insomniac Dreams Who said "dating"?
@JLS1950  @Insomniac Dreams LOL... Isn't your sister old enough to make her own dating decisions?Â
@Insomniac Dreams I'm afraid that far too many people "kind of like" guys like this: that is why the nation has gotten into such terrible shape again and again. There was "the business of America is business" Calvin Coolidge, followed by his protege Hoover (and the Great Depression); then "bring us together" Richard Nixon' then "get government off [my rich buddies'] backs" Reagan; then "read my lips" George H.W. Bush; and most recently "give [my rich buddies] back OUR money" George W. Bush. So many people "kind of liked them", and thus they did so much damage to the country.
Â
I would not trust this clown near my sister... and she's 75 years old!
Wow. Well, the Roman Emperors did this all the time, so w t h....
I like it.
